I was watching Hariharan's interview few weeks back on TV. I became his instant fan when I first heard his ghazal from Gaman -- "ajeeb saneha muzhpar gujar gaya yaron". In 1977, Hariharan participated in all-India Sur Singar competition and won the first prize. One of the judges was late Jaidev-ji who promptly signed him up for singing in Gaman. This ghazal become such a hit that it won Hariharan an Uttar Pradesh state award, and his playback singing career began. So that was Hariharan's story. The competition was probably hold over few days. A talented singer was found and he got the break.

Now consider what is happening in C2005. Its been 10 months since they started auditions and the competion is still going on with every controversy that you can imagine. The kids have been away from their home and Zee is using them as pawns to make huge commercial gains.

From Bramhastra to final round there will 13 rounds of voting. In initial rounds votes were in 20 lakhs and now they are reaching 1 crore . So if you take avg of 40 lakhs that makes 5.20 cores total votes. Assuming half of them from SMS, we have 2.6 crore SMS. At Rs 6/SMS this amount to people spending Rs. 15.6 crores!!!

Now 8 months of grueling for the kids, nearly Rs. 16 crores of money down the drain, all kinds of controversies, dirty vote manipulations, show rigging, bitter personal rivalaries, overtly fooling viewers (nihira-hemu tie, both getting EXACTLY same votes). Is this all worth to find one voice?
