While gala-one ended with gallons of tears and cheers with the ouster of everybody's little boy Sagar. The much-awaited results of the second round were announced on Tuesday evening. Anxious audiences waited to check if their favourite, among the five female contestants -Yashashree, Meenal, Monali, Neha and Antara -- who performed before the judges had earned enough votes of the Indian junta.
Jolly Das, was at an advantage as she catapulted to the next round without actually performing, because of an illness. After much waiting, the lowest grosser of audiences' votes were Meenal, Yashashree and Neha, a list that judge Anu Malik found hard to believe. He said, "It's surprising that Meenal would have featured in the list of low vote earners. I guess the public works in strange ways, and this is the power of the vote. You can never take the public's opinion for granted."
The results revealed that the Nagpur girl, Yashashree Bhave, the face and voice of a small town, was voted out of the show. Yashashree was a true image of what the show stands for as the viewers have seen her transform from a gawky girl to a glamorous and well-trained performer. Farah Khan could not help commenting on the perfect grooming of Yashashree and said that she would soon be taking make up tips from her. "It's always heart breaking to see someone's dreams being crushed before your eyes, but today Yashashree's emotions were true and her pain was visible as she left the stage," said judge Sonu Nigam.
Brave Yashashree took the news in her stride and will soon be back in Nagpur, as the girl who made the town proud. What has to be seen is whether Jolly will return to the stage and earn the place that has almost been handed to her on a silver platter. Will she prove herself worthy in the next round? Or will the public feel cheated into voting Yashashree out by default? What is the psyche of the Indian voter and who will earn the repute of the agla Indian Idol?
The next episode will show how the contestants perform when pitted against all other nine finalists ... as there are no more reservations for girls... all are on the same platform, same wavelength and every week will see one contestant leaving the show as India inches closer towards receiving its next Indian Idol.
