I don't post here much but I do follow the show and enjoy it very much. I thought you guys might be interested in this article. It is written by an autistic woman who has her PhD in animal science and specializes in creating humane conditions for livestock. She is praised by animal welfare groups for her work. She attributes her success to her unique abilities to visualize and memorize details that "normal" people overlook.

I heard her interview on NPR (National Public Radio). It was awesome. She is really an inspiration.

One thing I remember from her interview was how she said that those moments when autistic people are zoning out or stimming should be allowed less and less as they get older. She said that she was allowed one hour a day to zone out, and the rest of the time, she had to engage in some meaningful way with her family. That was the way she began to process intellectually.
