Chitrangada Singh who was in the city to launch an anti-aging cream, is less reticent, more naughty, and is looking forward to a brighter career with three films
As she launched an age-defying cream for women, the dusky beauty with a flawless complexion remarked that women should start taking care of their skin at an early age. But when it comes to men and their skin care, Chitrangada Singh added. "Men don't need to bother too much. They look more interesting as they age."
It seems the sultry actress who is sheer magic on screen, is back in the reckoning. She is now more open, full of confidence, has renewed vigor and a quiet determinacy to regain lost ground. After her re-appearance in Onir's Sorry Bhai earlier this year, the Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi actress has added two endorsements to her resume. There's the crunchy snack, Aliva, and now anti-aging products for Garnier Agelift. "As I was new to the industry, there was this uncertainty after Hazaaron…, and I made a hasty exit despite the accolades I got for my performance. But today I am serious about work, and want to concentrate on my career," says Singh, her light eyes sparkling.
Chitrangada did not have to look far for work. The Hazaaron… director Sudhir Mishra, who calls her 'talented and one that delivers', had not one, but three projects lined up for her. There is the sequel to his Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin called 2 Days 2 Nights And A Morning, Homecoming and the Farhan Akhtar and Kareena Kapoor film, Dhruv.
"It's an interesting array," she says about her films, "I play a complete bitch in 2 Days…, actually she's a very clever person who knows how to get her way, while in Dhruv I play a seductress." She describes Homecoming as a 'payback' film, which has her playing this woman who returns to her roots to pay her debt to a man who once bailed her out at a critical time. The first to take off will be 2 Days… in October.
Chitrangada has got several other film offers as well, with roles ranging from a don's mistress to a housewife. But she wanted to work with Sudhir Mishra again, as she shares a comfort level with him. "I started my career with him, and at this stage when I have decided to take another go, I wanted to work with him. But I am all set to work with other directors as well, and if things fall in place, there will soon be some announcements."
First on her wish-list is Vishal Bhardwaj, because she loves the way he portrays his characters, and then there are Sriram Raghavan and Farhan Akhtar. "I guess they will come to me when I fit into a character they have in mind."
Now that she has got rid of the uncertainties about her career, Chitrangada has taken her first step. The actress who till now hopped between Delhi and Mumbai, admits that she is now looking for her own place in Mumbai. "Till now I stayed with my sisters when I came to Mumbai, but I should soon have my own base here. I am looking forward to doing some good work," she smiles.
