Why only blame ID though. I think everyone is doing this. IMHO, this whole emotional blackmail thing was started first by HR when he started with Aishwarya and the injustice. Before getting Brahmastra, he used to say "Mindblowing" for every singer and gave them very good and positive remarks. I used to like him them.
I somehow felt that ever since he got the Brahmastra, he then changed (or showed his true colors, I'm really not qualified enough to say). He's the one who has been the most negative about the young contestants and gives them the lowest points. To his credit, he still says Mindblowing" everyday but only for his protege, Vinit. He started off this Vinit love story and doesn't fail to mention it at any opportunity.
ID is a very matter-of-fact guy and never used to give in to that. I think he's is now only trying to fight fire with fire because he sees that the emotional blackmail does work with us Indians.
Just my opinion (tear it to shreds now)...

Its obvious the incoherence shows in the flow of thoughts but I think I have come as close to nailing the point as I could..
