Hi guys,

before u jump into a conclusion this is not a bashing post but sumthing were many have a misconception. infact the king himself while growing up used to think urdu is a muslim language and only they shud or will speak (learn) it. but thts not the case. urdu is just a language like hindi, punjabi etc.

secondly people who convert to islam somehow start learning urdu as if its compulsory. tamil nadu n kerala r exceptions as irrespective of caste or religion all speak their native language. in karnataka n AP most muslims don even make the effort to learn their native language as if its blasphmous to speak in kannada or telugu.

lastly, the king would like a clarification here. is it written in the kuran that every muslim must learn arabic. again is language n religion mixed up here by preachers or is it really told by god that every muslim shud learn arabic. the king has seen many places in hyderabad where arabic is taught. since islam was born in saudi v can understand if the prophet n others spoke arabic. but shud a person in india, indonesia or canada also learn arabic to be called a true muslim.

King jii.. i wish i could answer your questions.. but i dont really know if there is any connect between learning arabic and being a true muslim..

but i never associated Urdu with islam.. my grandfather is well versed in urdu, written and verbal.. he cant read and write hindi though.. he grew up in punjab and they only thing they taught in schools at the time was Urdu and punjabi..

I toook an Arabic class.. didnt learn much but will sign up for them again hopefully in the spring semester.. i personally just took it because i think Arabic is a beautiful language and i want to read the Quran one day in arabic..😛

Urdu is a language created by the Mughals that is heavily used in India/Pakistan. It is closely tied to Islam in our minds because a lot of people that speak Urdu are Muslims. Also, many words in Urdu are Islam based, just like many words in Hindi originate from Hinduism.

Now, the Quran was originally written in Arabic, and many Muslims prefer to read the Quran in Arabic to appreciate the beauty of the scripture. But that doesn't by any means indicate that learning Arabic is compulsory in order to be a 'good Muslim'. You should first and foremost read the Quran to understand it (in your language) and abide by it. After that, everything else.

Interesting thread King!
Of course, I don't know what is written in the holy texts of Islam, but I don't think to be a good Muslim, one has to know Urdu or Arabic. It's like saying to be a good Hindu, one must speak in Sanskrit! How many people do that? Of course, I don't know for sure so if anyone is offended by my post, sorry!

I've always wanted to learn Urdu, because it just seems like a very poetic and romantic language - better than French I'd say.

One question I've always wondered is how different is Arabic from Persian? Sorry if its a silly question. I do not know much.

Well i guess any language has nothing to do with one's religion, you can learn what you want. There are still many hindu families in Delhi and Lucknow which are considered the ahlezaban of urdu like native speakers.Urdu was brought by Mugals in India(subcontinent)It is very common since then bcoz hey were the rulars then.

Well Quran was revealed in arabic coz it was Prophets language Quran is the word of God not arabic.
Yea we should learn arabic to understand Quran properly but still the arabic which araba speak and the arabic in Quran is quite different.
So in Canada,UK or US if people want their kids learn arabic its only coz they want them to learn Quran😊
Nice thread, urdu is language of every person whose mother tongue is urdu and btw hindi and urdu are same i see no difference in both😳
