i am brahmin and have a huge family..... and none of us follow any of the customs mentioned in the serial. so am kind of offended by the people blaming brahmins for all the nonsense happening in the seriall...i want radev together just like most people on the forum... and if that is not happening don;t be mad at the people who are not involved but the creative and directors who a writing the story just to keep going in circles.. one more thing.. according to hindu(brahmin are hindus) scripture the person take the religion of the father meaning in today's epi the way it is shown that the mother is not brahmin that is why the son is not... if thecreatifves want to show the thing folllowed in ancient time than they should do that clearly and thoroughly.. that is my 2 cents.. next please be careful while posting any kind of derogatory remarks toward any race or religion thanks....

I fully agree. I am Nagar( another branch of brahmins) and I have not seen this. I am also form very religious family. And if nagar marries to anyone but nagars, the kids take the religion of the father. but i guess there are rigid people too in this world so please do not get offended.
This is just the stories.

nehal- a "little" offended- it is extremely offensive to such portrayal of brahmins. When we read about Vyasa, the author of Mahabharata born of a fisherwoman and Sage Parashara and honored thus- no talk of varnasanka, where did this stupid 'tradition" come from? Sita of the ramayana also never knew who her parents were, she was raised as janka's daughter and thus addressed and married a prince and future king.
The creatives do not have the right to manipulate the sastras to suit their purposes to make a story for the sake of drama. Sorry, it is extremely offensive and had this happened here in the US we would have a public litigation and a public apology by the director/producers and script writers for portraying Hindu sastras (different from customs- morphed socially over time owing to invasions etc.) in such poor light.

Very well quoted. I can't believe how these cheap producers and directors protray our religion. Just for one twist they will go to any extreme. I am not even brahmin and I am offended seeing this because I hven't seen such silly behavior in my entire life.
They create their own customs, traditions, festivals and celebrate them like crazy and then have such silly twists as well. I would really like an apology from them.

I think we all should start a petition or write them a bunch of letters and e-mails complaining about the track and say that it is offensive to many viewers.

I am brahmin too ... but not offended by the show

Just like I would not be offended as a woman just because they show a woman in poor light
there are enough brahmins on the show who are portrayed as being exemplary ... Dev, Shastriji, Dev's dad, Dadi, etc). I come from a progressive family of brahmins but have been exposed to a few ammas and a few Shastrijis in my life. In general, you dont find such extremes - most people are in the middle.
For people who pass general remarks about hindus/brahmins based on this show - Most religions have their sects and classes .. Hinduism is no different. Just like in other religions , there are people who will exploit something that was written a few hundred years back to suit their purpose. There are others who will find a way to overcome/override it.

There are temples that still practice( high cast/ low cast ; Jain/non-Jain, etc ) exclusion. Brahmins eat in the inner premises of the temples separately from the non-brahmins in some temples; entry to Jains only in some of the temples still happen. So this is not something unusual that they are portraying here; its just that some of us here may not have had those experiences, jmho.
