| If Shahid Can Do It, Then so Can Priyanka By MovieTalkies.com, 13 August 2009 |
| There is a lot of buzz surrounding Shahid Kapur and his double role in 'Kaminey', where he enacts the role of twin brothers Guddu and Charlie. The most interesting thing about the film has been the fact that the actor has played both characters with a speech problem. While one stammers and stutters, the other lisps. Generally, in the Hindi films, our actors have often played identical twins with one of the two sporting a moustache while the other remained clean shaven, thereby bringing out the contrast between them. Of course, if it were female twins, there was always the tendency to have one play a very traditional Indian demure beauty, while the other is more Western. Of course, actors have often played them as contrasting characters, quite like what Shahid has attempted in 'Kaminey'. One easily recalls Dilip Kumar's 'Ram Aur Shyam', Dev Anand's 'Hum Dono', Sanjeev Kumar's 'Angoor', Hema Malini's 'Seeta Aur Geeta' as being among the most endearing examples of twins portrayed on screen. Shahid will definitely be looking to join the bandwagon. The task that he had taken on for 'Kaminey' was no mean feat. It could have hardly been easy for him to deliver his dialogues with a lisp or stammer. If one is talking of Shahid, then Priyanka can hardly be far behind. If the actor is playing a double role in his next release, then Piryanka will be seen very soon playing 12 characters in Ahsutosh Gowariker's 'What's Your Rashee?' The actress will be seen playing 12 different characters, each representing a different zodiac sign. Talking of double roles, even Bong beauty Bipasha Basu will be seen in one in Rohit Shetty's 'All the Best'. Shahid and Priyanka seem to have heralded the resurgence of the twin in Hindi films. |
