Prabhu speaks about his Bollywood directorial debut

A movie still from Wanted Dead and Alive

Like Shah Rukh Khan in Bollywood, Prabhu Deva is the superstar in South India. He is lovingly titled as 'rubber man' by his fans due to his flexible dancing skills. Prabhu has acted in couple of Bollywood films but for the first time he is directing a Hindi film. The film named 'Wanted Dead and Alive', stars Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia-Azmi in lead and is produced by Boney Kapoor. It's a Hindi version of Prabhu's Tamil hit Pokkiri.

The South Indian films are not less in anything compared to Bollywood. So did Prabhu find any difference between the two? "Since I worked with the same technicians, I couldn't feel any difference. Besides, I've been working in Bollywood for years now, albeit not as a director. There's a little more tension in Bollywood as it caters to a larger audience," says Prabhu Deva.

The film took long time to complete and rumors were that Salman delayed it to complete his another upcoming film 'Veer'. But Prabhu replied, "It took us a year-and-a-half to make it, and that's normal."

So why did he take so long to enter into Bollywood? "The opportunity came to me now. I have known Boney Kapoor for the last 15 years. But he approached me after watching Pokkiri," answers the actor-director.

Speaking about the film, Prabhu said, "It's a city-based film. There are small changes in the Hindi version. It's shorter than the Tamil version. There have been some changes in the comedy scenes and the songs."

Prabhu also had praises for his lead cast Salman and Ayesha. "He doesn't treat me like a director, but more like a brother. I've met his family. In fact, the first meeting happened at his home. He's a very sweet, chilled out guy."

"Ayesha (Takia Azmi) too was very professional and didn't give any trouble."

He will make a cameo appearance in a dance number in the film. So has he choreographed songs of Wanted? "My son was critically ill at that point. So, Vaibhavi Merchant and my brother Raju Sundaram stepped in. It was a difficult time for me. I'm slowly coming out of it. The Wanted team was very supportive," he said. Prabhu's 12-year old son died last December due to cancer.

It was tragic when I read about his son a couple of months ago! May his soul rest in peace. Prabhu has been through alot in his recent life.

Wishing Wanted all the best and I know it is going to be a rocking film. Prabhu's last film Villu was terrible but I hope this time, everything goes well.
