Sonam Kapoor's all 4 diabetes awareness

By: Tushar Joshi Date: 2009-08-11 Place: Mumbai

The actress shot for four short films on the subject

Sonam Kapoor will shortly be seen talking about diabetes and how to control it. As a part of Max India Foundation's health initiative, Sonam has shot for four short films on diabetes.

The actress will also advise viewers to go for regular check-ups, as early detection allows a patient to have a better quality life.

Reaching out

Shot by Kunal Vohra, the films will be telecast across all channels in the coming week. Sonam has also been tweeting, "Diabates is a silent killer and I empathise with people who have to live with this disease. Since I have insulin resistance myself, I decided to go out and talk about through a PSA and I hope by doing this I can reach out to many people and help spread awareness." The ad films were shot in celebrity photographer Dabboo Ratnani's studio.

Kunal, who has earlier made public awareness films with Gul Panag, Rahul Bose and model Shamita Singha, says, "I was pleasantly surprised when Sonam readily agreed to be a part of this awareness campaign. Even though she's busy shooting, she gave us time to shoot not one, but four short films. Three of the films talk about the symptoms of diabetes while the fourth has a voiceover with Sonam encouraging people to go in for regular check-ups."

The director reveals that Sonam was aware about diabetes and its symptoms, "She didn't have to be briefed at all. She was aware of the symptoms and the treatment as well. I will be sitting with her for edit and shortly releasing these films to be broadcast on various channels."

"Small steps lead to great leaps in preventing diabetes...or, in managing the disease if you already have it. Take the first step now," urges Sonam Kapoor in her new Diabetes ad campaign.

Sonam has been closely associated with several social causes. She urged people to vote and was the face of breast cancer prevention campaign and now Sonam has become a part of a Public Service Advertising (PSA), shot by short filmmaker Kunal Vohra.

Sonam is well aware of the dreadful disease. "Diabetes is a silent killer and I empathize with all those who have to live with this disease. I have insulin resistance myself, therefore I decided to go out and talk about it through a PSA. I hope to reach out to many people and help spread awareness," said Sonam.

According to director Kunal Vohra, Sonam was the perfect choice for this 30-second ad film on Diabetes awareness. He said, "Sonam has been associated with social causes. We were confident that with Sonam Kapoor featuring in the ad campaign, people will take it seriously."
