Shahid Kapur character in KAMINEY based on reality!!
[08 Aug 2009]
Heard this?? Shahid Kapur's character of Guddu in upcoming mega -budget flick 'Kaminey'(also starring Priyanka Chopra) is based on the real life story of a man, who lives in Bandra and has a speech problem due to his abusive childhood.
In the film too, Shahid Kapur's character of Guddu suffers from lisping defect, which is due to a bitter experiences in his childhood. The character is abused in such a brutal fashion that the scars are left in his memory for ever and the speech defect remains with him throughout the life.
In fact, director Vishal Bhardwaj has scripted a particular scene in the film, where Shahid Kapur is explaining the reason behind his lisping problem to his beloved Priyanka Chopra. The narration by Shahid Kapur of his speech difficulty is so moving that he considers it to be his best scene in the flick.
While essaying the character of Guddu in 'Kaminey', Shahid Kapur imitated the life experience of that person who had met him at the stammering club in Bandra. Sources say that the person was not against using his personality as the base of Shahid's character in the film as long as it was not a caricature.
Shahid promised the man that it would not be a caricature and asked director Vishal Bhardwaj to write the character of Guddu keeping in mind this guy. Vishal was also very impressed with the moving story of this guy and immediately agreed to incorporate it in the story of the flick.
The insiders reveal that like the real guy of Bandra with speech defect, Shahid Kapur's character of Guddu, too, suffers at the hands of seniors in his school, where he was beaten black and blue. Though the incident happened in his childhood, but it continued to haunt Shahid's character in the film throughout and as a result he stammers.
The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that after the unprecedented commercial success of Aamir Khan's 'Ghajini', wherein he suffered from a short- term- memory loss, the bollywood biggies are going for the characters with some sort of physical defect to garner sympathy from the audiences. Shahid Kapur's lisping character of Guddu in 'Kaminey' must be seen in that light.
However, Shahid Kapur is not alone in going for this new trend of heroes having physical defects. Even Shah Rukh Khan's character of Rizwan Khan in Karan Johar's upcoming flick 'My Name Is Khan,' suffers from a rare disease, which is again based on a real life story of a man in the US.
Another example of this new trend in bollywood is Big B's upcoming flick 'Paa', wherein he suffers from a rare disease of aging fast. His character ages very fast and director Balki had to call special make- up man from overseas to do his makeover for the role. Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan are playing Big B's parents in the flick.
Whatever… but whether the gamble has paid off for Shahid in 'Kaminey' will be known only on August 14, when the film is due for a world wide release, what say??
