Sakshi Tanwar (Parvati of Kahaani) was in no mood to celebrate her birthday on January 12. Although she had taken a day off, she was not keen on her Kahaani colleagues ushering in her birthday on the sets, the previous evening.
"A close relative of mine recently passed away and it's been a shock for all of us," she says with anguish. " My parents have specially come down from Delhi to be with me. Their presence and blessings were my only birthday shagun this time, since we are not in a frame of mind for any revelry, " she discloses.
Career-wise, the talented Tanwar is game for more. "Yes, I am definitely open for versatile characters, but unless it is exciting enough I do not wish to take up additional assignments."
Girl in the guys' club
While the countdown to the Mumbai Marathon has begun, the team-members of the film Marathon are also gung-ho about participating.
The crew members Bikram Saluja, Sammir Dattani, Purab Kohli, Prashant Chainani, producers Vicky Tejwani (who had earlier made My Brother, Nikhil), Gurpal Singh and Kailash Gandhi. But the catch in the team is apparently Chitrita Mitra who stars opposite Sammir in the film. She is the only girl-member in this guys' club.
"You feel special when so many 'good' guys run with you. At least you are not chased by rowdies," laughs Chitrita. "But we are running for a cause, this time for Multiple Sclerosis Society of India. Chitrita has just returned from the film's shooting in Goa and is gearing up for Sangeeth Sivan's next.
Running for a cause
Actress Gul Panag and designer Shaina NC will run in the Mumbai marathon tomorrow for mentally-challenged children of the Shraddha Charitable Trust , a non-profit NGO devoted to helping autistic and mentally challenged young adults.
Gul is running the half marathon to show her solidatory towards this NGO while Shaina will be with these special children in the Dream Run.
Manasi's blessing in disguise
Manasi Verma who made waves as the sultry Monalika in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii before she crossed over to CID — Special Bureau to play Inspector Tejali, ushered in her birthday on January 11 with a dinner treat for her parents.
"We had a special pooja at my residence. Actually I had no plans to host a party. There was a sudden twist, as they say, when my buddies Sachin Sharma, Anoop Soni and wife Ritu, Karishma Randeva, Aditi Shirwaikar turned up and we headed to a Juhu restaurant," she laughs. As tough cop Tejali, was she not tired of being in fancy disguise all the time?"
Hey, it's a blessing in disguise to be an undercover cop with different outfits instead of the same bland uniform. But I am now playing a policewali posing as a college student. So audiences will get to see what Manasi looks like minus the get-ups," she chuckles.
The Last Monk goes to Rotterdam Festival
Plexus Films and Access Entertainment's maiden feature film in English, The Last Monk, has received an invite from the Rotterdam Film Festival directorate for a special screening at the festival which is being held from January 25 to February 5. Sudipto was assistant to legendary filmmaker G Aravindan and has made many documentaries including The Other Wealth.
An Indian feature film in English, The Last Monk ventures into hitherto uncharted territories of cultural Buddhism through the beautiful landscapes of Ladakh and a radical understanding of male-female relationship, sexuality and beyond.
It is the story of Swapna (Rachna Shah), and the people around her, Pushkar (Jimeesh Gandhi) and Sonik (Sonam Stobgias Gorky), the main protagonist of the film.

It's party time for Umar
Thursday night saw some of the golden oldies of the Umar cast (Prem Chopra, Satish Kaushik) gathering together at the Renaissance Club to talk about the film.
Jeetendra was sighted sporting a cheery grin and appeared to be in high spirits with his buddies. He came at the request of good friend Satish Kaushik. Jimmy Shergill and the director of the film, Karan Razdan was spotted sharing a joke.

Umar is the story of three senior citizens — Iqbal Khan (Kader Khan), Chandrakant Mehta (Prem Chopra) and Rajpal Singh (Satish Kaushik) based in UK, who are insensitively treated as servants by their own children.
Humiliated and insulted, the three are left feeling defeated and hopeless, waiting for the inevitable end till Shashank (Jimmy), who is in love with Sapna (Shehnaz Treasurywala) gives them a new lease of life. Veteran singer Manna Dey has sung for the film after many years.
