I was passing by Radhika's room in the ashram when I heard voices in heated argument. Not being bothered by the niceties of culture and admonitions against eavedropping, I stopped and listened.
Apparently, Radhika was pestering an already tired Kanha and so her alter ego (AE) jumped out and took her to task.
AE: So, you are still at it---"Kanha why this", "Kanha why that". Why don't you take charge of your own destiny?
Rad: Kanha is the one who determines everybody's destiny. Whatever is happening to me is through the marzi of Kanha.
AE: Rats, Rads. Don't give me that crap. Kanha only provides common sense to people; he does not map their destiny. You have to use that common sense to chart your own destiny. Why are you repeatedly giving the brush-off to Dev? Don't you have any heart? The man is suffering so much!
Rad: I sympathise with him, but I have to consider others in this equation. To the world, Vishaka is "unke" wife. It will lead to badnaami if he dumps her.
AE: Unke wife? You mean your husband's wife? What nonsense! Unlike you, Vishaka has determined her destiny. She wants to be an actress and she has repeatedly announced it loud and clear and even taken action to fulfill it. You, on the other hand, are constantly whining about your sacrifices and pestering Kanha to save you. Why don't you consider Dev for once? He is your husband darn it!
Rad (a bit heated now): Don't lecture me about actions!
AE: Your actions?? You refused to go and see your father who was fighting for his life in the hospital! Why? Because you didn't want to miss out on the khushi ashram life. No Amma to bad-mouth you. No Vrindavan residents watching over you.
Rad: I have to do whatever is necessary for the good of my family. If I have to stay away from my husband, so be it. If I have to ignore the father who brought me up, I have to do that too.
AE: Pardon me, but you are stupid, Radhika. You want your husband to accept an absentee "wife" who has no interest in being his wife. You are afraid to tell the truth, and no amount of Kanha chanting is going to negate this paap of lying repeatedly. I asked Kanha about this whole mess, and to tell the truth, He is sick of you!
At this point, Janki didi was approaching, so I had to move away.
