PART 1

"Uhho not again!!!!", he murmured'.. Walking briskly towards the phone booth.

 

Back in Delhi, the land-line at purohit bhawan screamed away in the huge hall-way..

He stood waiting patiently.. Patience was one of his loveliest virtues..

 

"Hello!!!!!!!" said a voice at the other end at last.

"Hello, ma???!!!" said he.

"Dev!!!!!!????? Beta itni der tak phone kyun nahi kiya???!!! Pata hai main aur daadi chinta kar rahe the???

"Sorry ma.woh.........meeting mein phas gaya tha. AND then my cell broke down!!! Low battery!!! Isliye.."

"Accha baba, theek hai'. Tu theek to hai na beta???" said vaishali

"Ha ma, aap log bilkul chinta mat kijiyein... Main theek hoon!! .bas aap logo ki yaad aati hai'." He paused.

"hume bhi teri bahut yaad aati hai Dev!!!....tuh India wapaas kab raha hai???"

"Abhi nahi ma'.. when I manage to free myself from my lab. I'll surely come over!!! Accha ma'mujhe jana hai'rakhta hoon'. Love you all!!!! Take care bye!!!

"Bye beta'!! aur apna dhyan rakhna'. love you too!!!!"

 

Beep' beep'. The phone went dead..........................

 

It was beginning to drizzle slightly.

Dev walked towards the cafe, picked up a cup of coffee,  a paper and sat down on a bench in the park.

It was lonely.. he observed. Never mind. He liked solitude at times.

 

Soon, he folded the newspaper bored.. he decided to take a walk around the park.that was a lot better idea!

 

 

Dev was walking'. It was still drizzling slightly, but he loved it!!! He loved to feel the rain on his half-bearded face'.

Humming a tune by himself, he was soon deeply engrossed in another of his recent researches concerning a certain virus'.he just couldn't figure out what was it'.what could be so powerful enough to kill the man so mysteriously???? Anthrax!!! He laughed aloud to himself'. He sank deep into the realms of his "forensic thoughts".

 

 

 

"Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He shouted'

The reason of his shout was quite obvious'. Yet abnormal'

 

A girl had come running up to him crying out, "Please help me!!! For God's sake!!! Please!!!"

Dev was still in a state of semi-shock.

He said, "Wha'.where'.I mean'who are you????!!!! Do you know me????"

 

"Of course not!!! But that doesn't matter!!!! Please help me for pity's sake.there are some ruffians behind me'. "

"oh....... okay. Don't worry they won't touch you!!! I'm strong enough!!!"

"No!!!! they aren't exactly chasing me!!! But they have been following me right from the time I left my office!!!!"

"So'what do I need to do???"

"just act!!!!! You can act can't you????!!!"

"uuhh'.i am not that good I guess" he confessed

"You could at least try for a minute or two'please!!!!????"

"okay I'll......"

"ssshhh....start now!!!!! There they come!!!!"

 

Dev looked up. sure enough there were a few suspicious looking men watching the girl.

 

Dev couldn't act!!.but he was intelligent. he guessed what he needed to do.

 

So... He hugged her, even before she could react!!!!

 

"Heyyy, baby!!!!!! I missed you so!!! Where have you been???"

 

"huh??" she exclaimed

 

"sshh", he whispered

 

She was no less intelligent than him to realize what he meant. She played along.

 

"I have been doing fine dear!!!! I missed you too!!!! lets go??!!!shall we???" she replied.

Dev offered her his arm, and they walked past the scoundrels, smiling and talking like familiars.

 

It worked!!!! She glanced back. They were gone. Undoubtedly they had thought the unknown man to be her husband or her boyfriend. Good!!

 

"Thank heavens!!!" she said aloud, they walked around the corner, letting go of his hand.

"Thanks heavens???? Now what about thanking me as well???!!!"

"Gosh'I am so very sorry'thanks a lot!!!!!!! I am grateful to you!!!" she said.

"So, you are an Indian too, right???" Dev asked. She looked Indian AT LEAST.

"Yup I am'. I live at Delhi'. What about you Mr'..???"

"Dev"'. "Dev Purohit", he answered. "that's nice. I live at Delhi too!!!".

"Well, it was nice talking to you Dev' but I really have to rush now!!!! Gotta get to the food-mart if I don't want to go starving today!!!! Thanks once again, Good night!!!!"

Even before he could reply, she hurried off past the street.

 

"Wait up!!!!! What's your name Miss???" he shouted from across the road.

She looked back, gave him a beautiful smile and disappeared around the corner'..

PART 2

She was sleeping comfortably in her bed...... when suddenly a noise woke her up..........

The door creaked open slowly and cautiously..................... she was wide awake by now.but she didn't dare to call out.....she was trembling with fear and perspiration....

In the midst of the darkness she could see the outline of a man moving towards her.....

The figure was very close to her now'!!!!!she caught a glimpse of his face.

The figure's hand stopped her from screaming..... she struggled hard under his hold........

This couldn't be happening to her......this couldn't...........

Tears were streaming down her face as she desperately tried to shout for help.............

"Help'.mmmppphhhhhh'..heemmppphhhhh'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!."

"HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Radhika sat upright in her bed

She was badly choked and drenched with perspiration.

"Get a grip girl!!!!" she said to herself panting...... And took a deep breath, switched on the bed-side lamp, and looked at her digital clock glowing ferociously in the dark.

"Only 4???? Shit!!!!! Now I won't be able to get a wink of sleep any more!!!"

She got out of bed, took a soothing shower, and then sat for her daily-meditation.

It was almost 5 a.m, when Radhika was finished with it. She walked over to the shelf in her study room'.. and gazed affectionately at the numnerous certificates and medals on criminal psychology adorning the mahogany shelf''.

Her gaze shifted over to a photo very close to her heart....... the photo consisted of 4 people...her adopted family....... Her father Brijmohan Shastri, Her mother Devki Shatri and last but not the least her dear sister Vishakha'.

Brijmohan Shastri was one of the most well-known doctors of Delhi'. Devki was a perfect home-maker cum social worker....and Vishakha, vishakha was now a successful daily-soap star in India!!!

Radhika took the photo affectionately into her hands...... a tear rolled down her cheek.

She was lonely.........................................................................................................................

But Radhika had work to do. She had to look into a very interesting case of criminal psychology...

She sat on her desk and got to work diligently...two hours passed by, and she didn't know how!!!! It was her alarm that reminded her. "Shit!!!! I am gonna be late for office" She muttered to herself as she hurried over to her car.

Dev sat in his office, clutching his hair with both hands in desperation!!!! "What the hell man!!!!!!"

He just couldn't get the heck of it!!!!!!! The case seemed to get more and more puzzling with every new possibility he unlocked!!!!

But he knew he would solve it ultimately.....at least he hoped to do so!!!!!

He couldn't afford to get his reputation as one of the most successful Forensic "wizards" of Sydney ruined. Could he??????

"Hey Dave!!!!! Wassup man???? How is the Davidson case going???"

Dev looked up exasperated. He sighed. "Hey Max!!!Life's doesn't seem very exciting right now...... Am tired to death!!! Phew!!!"

"well there's some thing to unwind you up. I have popped in to remind you about the dinner scheduled at my place today!!!! You forgot old pal, didn't ya???" Max replied.

Dev grinned with his unusually attractive boyish looks. " You bet!!!! I am sorry!!!! Thanks for reminding me anyway!!! I would have missed a great dinner today otherwise!"

"very funny!!! Anyway gotta go!!! My lunch-time's up!!!! See you tonight then!!

Max was gone.

Dev thought......"Shit!!!! How on earth could I forget my lunch?????!!!!!! Dev Purohit!!!! You really need a good psychologist, boy!!!!!"

Dev went over to their left wing cafeteria, to grab a bite to fill his rumbling tummy with.

"Hello Daisy, anything new in the menu today?" He asked the owner hopefully.

"Nope, I am afraid not Dave.. will it be the same for you today?" replied Daisy.

"Yes, a cup of coffee and a hot-dog for me."

Dev walked over to an empty table and sat down, listening to his i-pod.

Suddenly his thoughts drifted over to the unusual incident he got involved in the night before.

"lol" he laughed out to himself! "I just can't believe I actually acted yesterday!!! Cool!!! Dev old man!!!!" he chucked to himself.

"But...................... who was she?? The girl...............she was just so mysterious. She appeared and disappeared out of the blue!!!!!!" thought Dev.

He thought about the girl, for the first time after their meeting. She was an Indian'..and a real Indian Beauty without doubt. No wonder she was being harassed by some stupid youngsters! She had been dressed in black fitting denims and a long black coat to beat the chill',,, nothing too eye-catching'..but her beauty was enough to make people turn around at least "once". Her long silky locks fell carelessly over her fair face.

She was "beautiful" no doubt......

Dev didn't even know her name. He sighed.

It was almost 8 p.m, when Dev managed to free himself from his beloved work-station.

He hurried home, took a short shower, and dressed himself in the comfortable denims, a shirt, snatched the leather jacket from the chair, and hurried over to his car.

It was almost 9, when he managed to make it to Max's.

"rrrriinnngggg" he stood waiting outside, after ringing the door-bell.

Finally Max opened the door and gave him a quick hug with a wide grin on his face!

"Hi, dave!!!! I thought you would never make it!!!! Congrats!!!!"

"Am sorry maxie! will the excuse of the Davidson case do???!" said Dev guiltily.

He walked inside with Max, into his drawing room'..

A lady was standing over the shelf, reading a book with utmost interest.

"Dave, meet Radhika Shastri. One of the well-known criminal psychologists of Sydney!

The lady turned around on hearing her name.

Dev was utterly surprised to see the face. She was the very same girl, who ran over to him the night before!

"You????!!!!!" both replied at the same moment.
