SIMPLIFIED game rules...

ok everybody... this is for the quidditch matches... just to make this game a lot easier to understand... here are the rules:

PLEASE FEEL FREE to suggest some more rules etc...

Ok... let's assume that there are two teams playing each other, like maybe raven and gryff... there will be two referees...

it all happens in a chat room, i guess... that's the idea i got after reading the HOL game transcript...

btw... full credit 4 the rules goes to the HOL forum...

at first... we all decide a common time at which all members will log in... if anybody wants to just watch the game being played, do log in but DON'T CHAT... please, it will ruin the flow of THE GAME...

TEAM CODES:

REFEREES: referee number one : <REF_1>
referee number two: <REF_2>

TEAM ONE (ravenclaw): <R>
players:
chaser one: <R_CH_1>... similarly, chaser two: <R_CH_2>.... chaser three: <R_CH_3>
beater one: <R_B_1>... beater two: <R_B_2>
seeker: <R_S>
keeper: <R_K>
these are the players in team one (ravenclaw)... henceforth we shall refer to them by the names written in bold...

TEAM TWO (gryffindor): <G>
players:
chaser one: <G_CH_1>... similarly, chaser two: <G_CH_2>.... chaser three: <G_CH_3>
beater one: <G_B_1>... beater two: <G_B_2>
seeker: <G_S>
keeper: <G_K>
these are the players in team two (gryffindor)... henceforth we shall refer to them by the names written in bold...

1>All players log in to HP forums at the decided time... players please log in with the TEAM CODES given above... if there are probs and some players cannot come, the replacements should have been decided at least one day in advance, and the team captain will have to send the new list to one of the referees... without fail...

2>Just before the game begins and after everyone has assembled in the chat room, the referees will announce the names of the players from each house... spectators... please don't write anything... just watch...

3> this game is mainly about trivia... to simplify things a bit, we will previously decide which book the questions are going to be based on... all team members will have to be informed by the captain... who in turn will be informed by one of the referees...

4> so let's play a mock game to understand the rules:

THIS IS HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED...

the previous post was all about preliminary information...

here, we'll find out how the game is played... ok, i've changed the HOL rules a bit, to speed up the game... because when reading their transcript, i had the feeling that the procedure was causing the game to be lengthened very much... so here goes...

these are my modified rules...

The two teams (let's assume..) are Ravenclaw and Gryffindor

1> once all the players have set their respective team colours in the username colour settings... the referees will start the <JBQ>... all those of you who have played basketball will know that each match begins with a JUMP BALL... so we'll do something similar here. There will be a JUMP BALL QUESTION or <JBQ>. All players, seekers, keepers, beaters, and chasers are allowed to answer this question.
The referees will announce that they are going to start the <JBQ>. After the announcement, one referee will immediately start a countdown of 5. While the countdown is happening, the second referee should immediately start typing the question so that it is ready by the time the first referee says "ONE"...

2> as soon as <REF_1> says... "5, 4, 3, 2, 1... GO!", the <REF_2> should hit the SEND button... and the <JBQ> appears... now ALL the players must answer as SOON as possible... the first person to give the correct answer (without any spelling mistakes... it should be a complete answer... abbrieviations are ALLOWED) scores TEN points for her/his team... so the game begins with a bonus...

3> those who know how basketball is played, or for that matter even soccer or football... keep the rules of these games in mind... if somebody from Ravenclaw gives the correct answer first... then they score TEN points... then the next question will be between the Gryffindor chasers and Ravenclaw beaters... (just like the scoring team returns to their side of the court after scoring, in basketball... the other team gets a chance...)

4> the <REF_2> will announce: "Gryffindor chasers and Ravenclaw beaters... this question is for you..." and the countdown starts... as before, the <REF_1> should keep the question ready to send as soon as the word "GO" is typed by the <REF_2>. Now the Gryffindor team does the OFFENSE and the Ravenclaw team does the DEFENSE... please note: in this portion, ONLY the Gryffindor CHASERS and Ravenclaw BEATERS are allowed to answer the next question...

5(a)>the question appears... if a Gryffindor chaser gives the correct answer first, <REF_2> will announce that the next question is between that particular Gryffi CHASER and the Raven KEEPER, one on one (now goto step no. 6)

5(b)> but if a Ravenclaw BEATER gives the correct answer first... then the next question will be between the Ravenclaw CHASERS and Gryffindor BEATERS (now goto step 7)...

6> in case a chaser from Gryffindor gives the correct answer the next question will be between that chaser and Ravenclaw keeper... if the chaser answers correctly... she/he scores 10 points for her/his team... but, if the keeper answers correctly... it is considered that she/he has successfully defended his goals from the opponent chaser. in both scenarios... the next question will be between the Ravenclaw chasers and the Gryffindor beaters... (return to step 5(b))

7>Each game consiss of two halves... each half consists of 10 questions...
the second half also begins with a <JBQ>... if any team scores in BOTH <JBQ>'s, they will be given a bonus of 3 points immediately after the second half's <JBQ>

8> In case there is a question and nobody gives the right answer, the two seekers will be given a question and whoever answers correctly CATCHES THE SNITCH... and the game ends there...
but if even the seekers are not able to answer the question that is given to them, the game will resume from the previous goal...
