since most of the show over the last two weeks has been 'bout telling who the charaacters are just now, after the 6-year tls**, rather than the story of how they got there, i'm just gonna wtf the characters.
wtf#1: prem has become withdrawn, shut-down -- that we saw last week. but this week, we saw that he has also become... insecure? 'cause i seriously did not like prem walking away from heer after he yanked heer out of the dance party and told her that he still loves her. why did he tell her if he wasn't going to claim her for his own? i thought he decided to do it 'cause he saw that she was miserable at the dance -- and that she would walk away with him once she knew that he has always loved her, these six long years.
smits (sshekar) in a bt,lt said it was a sign of how much he loved her; to tell her how much he wants her for himself as always, but that he wishes her all the happiness in the world with someone else. what i couldn't figure is -- after everything that they have been through, how can prem imagine that this would've done anything other than make heer miserable?
and even after he finds out that heer is not getting married, he apparently accepts that she thinks she will never find love again, that after her trust in him is broken, she will never love anyone again -- why does he accept that that includes him? who she has loved ever since she was one/two years old?
how has prem become such a defeatist in all matters heer? đ all because of that one incident where he thought he slept with ashlesha??
but wow. chahat makes prem become kiddy. and smile. that sooo rocks...
wtf#2: heer, otoh, has become a bubbling, excitable extrovert -- that we saw last week. this week, we see that it's all a front -- that it doesn't take more than one meeting with prem to strip it all away and leave someone who is deeply unhappy.
worse, heer has become ... bitter about prem? she doesn't trust herself to stand strong against prem. but she so doesn't want to let him come back into her life! there is something deeply bitter and deeply afraid in her voice when she shrugged off the ''aunty-ji's'' question about what she was worried about. bitterness is such a sad thing to see in heer... đ
it must've been a hard life! she probably had her daughter immediately after she left jzoo. she had left with nothing. with a new baby in hand, she came to delhi, nothing in hand, no-one she knew? and built herself and a life for her baby from scratch? man, i hope life was not that difficult!
*sigh* when are we going to get to see what happened six years ago? why has she become so difficult? why was there such real fear in her voice when she asked harman to please not tell prem about chahat? *''prem bhaiyya kay chahat'' -- why, oh why does that sound so darned sweet??? đ* why was she willing to take on ''such sin'' of lying, of having harman lie to his brother -- just to keep the little one a secret from prem? even after she has heard and seen how desperate prem is for her, about her??! argh! when are we going to get to see what happened six years ago, darnit!??!
and man, i'm dying to see chahat make heer smile... i hope we get to see some real heer smiles soon.
wtf#3: what has happened to nihaal? why haven't we seen him yet? it has been six years -- time enough for nihaal to come out?
wtf#4: along with what happened six years to prem and heer, now i am curious to see what happened then to cause preet to become so stiff and hostile with his brothers.
at first, i thought preet was just extremely angry with prem. but he's as stiff with harman as well! and while he is still eager to please lj (lalit juneja), lj himself said that he hadn't spoken to his sons in six years. clearly, preet is successful in business -- he looks like he earns well. like prem, unlike harman. who else noticed how he was comfortable with the attendant take his suitcase, while harman preferred to carry his own luggage at the hotel? and yet, there is no pride that lj shows in any of his sons' achievements.
does this all go back to what made prem walk out of can-atta six years ago? or is it something else?
wtf#5: exactly what happened to make harman a house-husband? at the start of the show, we know harman was studying law -- in canada. then, they shifted to india and he was studying and taking his exams in india. then we were told he could take cases in india. later, we saw he was helping out in the hotel business in ludhiana.
and then boom! he's a house-husband with maya working. somehow all of us assumed that he didn't have a choice in that matter, no? that he was forced to stay at home?
hmm, either i was wrong -- has he chosen to stay at home? or had something happened to force him to be able to do nothing that he used to before -- either being a laywer or helping out with the business. hmmm. did he gamble and get into huge debts, or something?
gah! in any case, what happened to make ram-bharat-lakshman not talk with each other??! aaaargh! i want to know -- like now!
wtf#6: of kuldi, meher, maya, kuldi seems the one least affected by the past six years, no? she is the one that lj still talks to, who lj tolerates more than he tolerates gaali-maa. kiran-kuldi is a husband wife relationship that doesn't seem to have any cracks. she hates having returned to canatta. she is mother -- well, to at least two kids. hmmmm -- i wonder if something horrible happened to vikas, the eldest kid? i wonder if that was part of what happened to make them all leave india and return to canatta? *puzzled muh* hmmmm.
wtf#7: nothing new we have found out on meher and maya, no? except that they are staunch friends -- and that meher treats maya like she treats kuldi?
hmm. the sisters-in-law have a strong bond? i wonder if kuldi and maya are as close as maya-meher?
wtf#8: lj (lalit juneja) has left all connection with the hotel business -- was he forced to, or did he choose to? prem is the one who has built the 20-hotel business that they currently have. whereas earlier, lj used to have his fingers in all the projects they did.
and lj seems to have cut himself off from his sons. but not his grandkids. and ... not his sons' wives? not his daughter, for sure. and he clearly does not involve kiran in duties and responsibilities of his ''son''s. i wonder though -- does he talk with kiran?
and man! has lj cut himself off from gaali-maa! the only question is: for what reason? what happened that no-one -- not gaali-maa, not his kids -- can question or berate lj for not being cordial or close with gaali-maa?? has he told everyone that vitchface veera had aborted her own child? 'cause certainly gaali-maa was all over him, trying to act the dutiful wife. except that it looked like he couldn't stand her!
wtf#9: *sigh* i left gaali-maa for last, 'cause she was the one who really startled me the most last week.
'cause for some reason, i'd never imagined that after all this time, gaali-maa would still hate heer. but guess what? she does! the look on her face when lj jerks out of his nightmare saying ''heer!'' in that moment, she goes from a heavy-spirited mopey wife to a shifty-eyed, evil-mongering gementor! đ¤˘
she can't stand the thought that prem might even see heer, let alone meet her! despite all her moanings and groanings about how lj doesn't treat her like a human wife anymore, she doesn't seem to have understood -- or care! -- that a really large part of lj's life was about fulfiling his promise to his old friend. and that really became all about prem and heer being together. (once of course, the old hypocrite found out that prem's heer was also his heer. *sigh*)
she doesn't seem to understand - or even care! - that she is living among the ruins of a most beautiful set of brother-brother relationships. that she has herself helped to destroy. or some possibly wonderful sister-sister/sister-in-law relationships that she never gave a chance to live.
the only thing this woman obsesses about is prem now, no? for prem to remain within her grasp? no matter that prem today is no longer prem from before. she really doesn't care about prem the guy; all she cares about is owning prem.
*sigh* i wonder why? so that prem will never stop being a support to her -- today and till the day she dies? so now it's all just about her? 'cause prem to support vitchface in the future if gaali-maa is not around is no longer important, no? and she doesn't care that, in spirit, he is always far away from her? where's the happiness in having such a thing, i wonder? đ
and before i feel nostalgic and sad that they might actually be trying to tell us that prem-heer-are-one was not strong enough in front of gaali-maa, i must remember that we don't yet know why it is that prem left india (and heer) to come to canatta.... waaaah! i so want to know why right now!!
wtf#10: and of course, one cannot forget little chahat.
y'know? i must admit -- they've got me again. i never could imagine the kind of mood swing about this show that i have had since the friday show. seriously. but this kid rocks.
one of the primary reasons is that prem with the kid is no longer the mopey insecure escapist guy we've had for the last one week! he is both engaged and engaging in a new way that we've never seen prem before -- prem-the-kid! đđ
and another reason is that the kid, brought up by herself by heer, is such a spunky, sparkly, seeking, aware little thing! and that she loves her mamma/mummy. *btw, it's really cool how they show the kid flip in and out of what she calls her mom. i think that's exactly what people do with mom's -- and they have a fixed name to call their fathers. isn't that weird? đ*
chahat. y'know? in the ... thursday bt,lt, i mused out aloud whether this little kid is going to be like luv-kush of the ramayan, or like krishna of the mahabharat. certainly, her first meeting with prem is like luv-kush -- ram was running a yagna when luv-kush stopped the horse. ram's children challenge ram to a fight -- just like little chahat challenged prem. *although if prem was a leetle less childish, it need not have been such a challenge! đ¤Ł*
but this is just the first episode with the kid. and methinks that by keeping gaali-maa's evil fires alive -- even without any vitchface pictures or diyas being shown yet -- they are trying to say that gaali-maa has become the evil kans. and that it will take a krishna to kill the evil spirit.
whatever the mode -- be it just chahat, or chahat+prem, or chahat+prem+heer -- i'm fiercely watching to see gaali-maa get killed. yes, i am! *fiercely!*

should i?
should i not?
should i?
should i not?
hmmm....*
