In Ramayana, when Lord Rama killed Ravana , Lady Sita proved her purity by giving the agni pariksha.

It is said that, Lord Rama always knew that Sita was pure, but the agni-pariksha was for the general public, because Rama knew that the questions on Sita's character will be raised.

After the agni-pariksha, Rama and Sita returned to Ayodhya.

Later a Dhobi again questions Sita's purity due to which queen Sita is disowned by Rama and sent to vanvaas.

Sita had given the agni pariksha for the general public.

Rama knew Sita was innocent and pure, even before the agni-pariksha and also when the dhobi raised the question over her character.

But due to public pressure, he had to disown his beloved, that too during the time she was pregnant.

But OUR maryada purushottam (for me Dev will always be that- maryada purshottam, and I will call him that) does not tolerate such accusations against the queen of his heart.

In yesterday's episode,

Our maryada purushottam has confronted the dhobi (washer man)!!!!

For once, HE has not buckled under public pressure. HE has not blindly listened to his 'praja' (people) and punished the innocent.

For once SOME maryada purushottam has raised his voice to defend HIS Sita.

For once SOME maryada purushottam has said, Sita does not have to prove HER innocence, I will do it for her, and confronted the age old dhobi.

HE has taken the onus on himself and is not letting his beloved to fight alone to prove HER innocence.

For once, SOME maryada purushottam has challenged the age old dhobi to prove HIS Sita guilty or just shut up for ever.

And that SOME maryada purushottam is OUR DEV.

HIS statement-

'Radhika ke charitra par daagh laganese pehele bhagwaan bhi sau baar sochenge' (even god will think 100 times to raise question on Radhika's character)

was enough proof to the fact that how much our maryada purushottam trusts his beloved Sita.

When Dev confronts Vivek by saying 'aap apna vaada bhool gaye bhiyya, aap insaniyat bhi bhool gaye' (u forgot ur promise and u forgot humanity) - just amazing

Later when Dev says 'main ma aur dadi ma se puchunga ki unke jameer ne is baat ki izazat kaise di' (how did their conscience allow this?)- Dev (maryada purushottam) not only confronted one dhobi but all the dhobis.

Now OUR maryada purushottam has decided to prove HIS Sita innocent and bring her back.

By the determined look on HIS face, it looks like either he will bring back his beloved or stay back and accompany HER on this vanvaas (Dev is there in Vrindavan with bags and baggage to build the 'mutth', remember).

Both way's, HE is OUR 'maryada purushottam'.

Simply amazing.

Love the post April!!

Dev symbolizes the true maryada pushottam. His moral compass is high and he truly values the woman he loves. He doesn't let society dictate his actions when it comes to an injustice being done. He clearly stated to Amma- samaaj hamse hain, hum samaaj se nahi, and if a practice puts someone down, it needs to be changed. He is determine to prove Radhika's innocence...he held everyone accountable today and that was very gratifying.

I think what he did today was admirable, the day he finds out Vishaka was behind this mess, Vishaka better run or hide because there will be no saving her!

A true rajpurohit and maryada purushottam has purity in his thoughts, words and deeds...Dev proved that today he his worthy of the title he holds not just as Radhika's husband but a true maryada purushottam!

I always thought that how Ram being an incarnation of God, could tolerate such injustice towards any human being, let alone his wife.......
How could he allow the common human beings to raise questions on another human's character, a human, whose character is stainless........ spotless...... a woman who was an epitome of Goddess and still is so, for us.......... that too questions being raised by people who have commited a thousand and one sins themselves?????????!!!!!!!!
What was the reason....that made Ram, our maryada purshottam forget the words of the lord, krishna, in the Geeta???????
That is a question whose answer I have never got,....and never will get.........
All I want to say is...... I would feel proud if I ever have a husband....or even a son like Dev.........
I respect justice.....and people who stand and speak for what is right!!!!!!!!! Injustice is something I hate the most in this world!!!!
Today, the character of Dev has earned my utmost respect........
By his words and actions he's proved that he is not blindfolded like the rest of our society.....he knows the weight of the scale of justice.......
He has not done this for Radhika, his wife........but for a innocent victim who is shamefully and horribly wronged!!!!!

I too wonder, despite being wedded to maryada purushottam, Sita had to suffer so much. She was selfless, she quit the comfort of the palace for her husband, accompanied him in vanvaas. But what did she get in return? Another vanvaas.. that too during her pregnancy! And in the end, she was so hurt she had to tell mother earth to divide and take her within.
So in this age, maryada purushottam should confront dhobi and rescue his beloved.

April: Very good as usual. I have echoed the same sentiment in which Dev post......but you have worded it more beautifully.......

PW: I completely agree with you, that is the one answer which i never got.........Lord, as human, did not fulfill the vachan of protecting his wife.......and what about as a king protecting the innocent........This will always be baffling for me........

April, I always look forward to your posts. This one was no exception. I think that this story is not just about Ra-Dev's love, but how a love can be so pure and defining that both people can change and become their destinies.
Dev is a person that has always followed instinct. But even in the beginning he was filled with doubt to the point that he thought he dreamed Rad. But Dev has matured and now he knows that he can trust his inner voice. He knows that which has no outward proof.
Ram wanted Sita to give visible proof to society. Dev knows that Rad is pure and needs no proof. He does not believe in humiliating anyone for the sake of society. He knows that they are eternally bonded even though they are not married (in his eyes). Dev knows things which have no outer manifestation.
I think that his love for Rad is training him to be Rajpurojit. By completely worshipping the lowest member of society, he is learning to love mankind. He is learning to believe in things and need no outward manifestation. He is becoming Rajpurojit though his divine love of Rad.
April thank you for making me think. It is a gift you give us.

That was a beautiful post. Both of you.. WOW> šŸ‘ I am so touched. To be honest, Dev's character i felt wasn't a mature one in the beginning. I couldn't understand his strange obsession with Rads and his determination to be with her even tho he was married to soemone else as far as he knew. But the character has grown on me with the current track. Though i'd say he doesn't do everything perfectly as per the norms of the society we live in, but he is the only character who has listened to the inner voice (the voice that often believers say to be that of God's) and followed that voice to the T under great duress. He stands up for what he believes it right and that nature of his leads him to do only justice to those around him.

As for Ram... i have contemplated on why he let this great injustice happen to Sita knowing her well. The only answer i could come up with was that Ram came to earth to prove to be an ideal [everything]. Ram's purpose on earth was to give an example of how a man should lead each aspect of his life. He was the ideal student. He was the ideal son when to keep his father's word he left all luxuries. He was the ideal brother and son, not holding grudges against his step mother and brother. He showed what the duty of an ideal husband was.. now this is arguable... but going by what the popular practice was in those times.. i.e. Kings marrying multiple times for pleasure or for business.. he dedicated his life solely to his wife. He was faithful to her and loved her as an ideal husband. He went after the golden deer only to fulfil her wishes and make her happy...proving that her wishes were important to him. When Ravan kidnapped her he didn't forget her. He went after the man who wronged and got his wife back even though it took years and a lot of hardships. He freed her fulfilling his promise to be her protector. He trusted and believed in her pure character. He understood her.
The only flaw that has ever been found in Ram was that he made Sita prove her purity for the world to see. And even after that when a man pointed a finger he left his wife in wilderness in a pregnant state. How does that make him ideal?
The point is that when this happened Ram was trying to be an ideal King. A King to whom his people's troubles mean more than his personal life and beliefs, a King who gives primary priority to his people who trust in him and who expect him to dedicate his life for them and for their betterment. When his praja accused his wife Ram had to choose between being a King first or being a husband. The example was merely that a King must do his duty towards the people forgeting about himself. The King doesn't have a non-public life, that the King is not the head of the people but he is a servant of the people.. and is answerable to the people. He cannot live his life as he pleases but must live a life that is satisfactory to his people. Even though knowing Seeta's innocence and knowing his duty to protect his wife he sent her away.. how else would he have proved to his people that Seeta was pure? We all know what happened when Seeta was asked to go through the agni-pareeksha more than once. Wasn't it wiser of Ram not to ask this of Seeta in the first place and hurt her self-respect.. although later when she returned in his life due to circumstances he ended up asking that very same thing of her because the question about her character still remained in the people's mind...

Also there was some shrap on Vishnu and Lakshmi too (NO?) that they must endure the pain of separation for certain amount of human years. So the seperation of Ram and Sita first when Ravan kidnapped her and then later when Seeta was living in the ashram was to fulfil that need.. and i think also they did the same as Krishna and Radha.. living a life of Judaai.

BTW i have a confusion.. since i am not hindu and have no clue about the dates and all. Didn't Ram avtaar happen before Krishna avtaar???????????
