And then go to it with all its glory - Sita being born to Mandodari and then abandoned, Ravan asking for a boon that Dasharath be impotent, Bharat getting wounded in battle, Shurpanakha's son getting killed, Meghnad's severed hand writing a farewell letter, Ravan trying to rig the grahas, Karkati fleeing w/ Kumbhakarna's followers and survivors, Kaagbhushandi, Sita's hand model being taken to Rama, Hanuman's sindoor bath, Hanuman giving Sita grief over her inviting over for lunch, Rama's fight w/ Hanuman, Padma puran stories of the horse battles, K-L getting kidnapped at behest of Sita and taken to Rasatal, the sahasramukh Ravans and all the other stories that are out there.

And I am ready to offer my services as consultant or writer - for a hefty sum of course 😉 - to create the Khichdi Ramayan. There's enough material available, from hundreds of different versions, to last years upon years of episodes. 😆

I can see it now. The first couple of months are spent on the back story: the previous births of the principal characters, the various boons and curses that give rise to the events of the epic and so on and so forth. Then we spent the next 1-2 years on the story of the Rakshasas and the Vanaras. The rise of the Rakshasa forces, the histories of Lanka and Kishkindha. As a sub-plot we would have the stories of the ancestors of Rama. The early history of Ravan, Vali and Dasaratha's immediate ancestors. Finally, towards the end of the second year or the beginning of the third, we introduce Dasaratha himself. 😆

You can see where this is going. It would probably 4-5 years by the time Sita is abducted. Oh yes, we can drag this show for a full 14 years (corresponding to Ram's 14 year exile). 🤣 Remember the story of Rama's ring where Hanuman is told about the previous Ramas? We can spend many months or even years exploring different versions of the epic. The Ashwamedha Yagya and the stories of the wandering horse can take up an actual year! 😆

Oh the possibilities! 😈

Now just imagine if they hire me to write a Khichdi Mahabharat 😈😍

Can you translate this song as well? Again, same as I offered in the Friday update - if you prefer, I'll credit you w/ the translation, and change words in between if needed.

Kal

You can be the head honcho of this project, and have your name right up there w/ Ramanand and Anand. You can also claim in the story about Valmiki offering to reproduce Hanuman's Ramayan that you are the incarnate of Valmiki 😆😆😆

You absolutely read my mind in trying to create a serial that lasts 14 years. 😆😆😆 Or if that is too much, 12 years - the period of Sita's exile. Would rival Dynasty and other such classics.

For Mahabharat, is there such a scope? There, it is relatively clean, since Vyasa was the only author. Of course, if one tries to align it w/ Krishna puranas and other literature about Krishna, sure you can open another can barrel of worms.

For one thing, there are different manuscripts, just like the Ramayana. And there are other versions, including tribal versions (the Bheel Bharata comes to mind). But yes, the variations of the text as as whole are not as extensive as is the case for the Ramayana.

But if we start accumulating the different stories about each character then we have a fine recipe for a khichdi. There are many stories about Yuddhisthir, Bhima, Arjun, Barbarik, Shakuni, Bhishma, Krishna, Kunti, Karna, etc in different texts, puranas, regional legends/folklore, etc. The Jains have their own version of the life of Krishna. We can look into Southeast Asia as well. 😈
