Chapter 1
Lavish surroundings of a millionaire family's residence and in the dimmed night light of the late evening tired expressions make conversation….kapoor house and returning fom there trip to haridwar, dadaji, prateek and aarti talk on the days happenings. A mixture of feelings across the three. Prateek with his usual content and smiling nature feels that all is well whilst dadaji is worried. Pulling off his glasses sitting in a very thoughtful mannerism dadaji beigins to mull over his own decision. Was the decision he had made correct or was it the wrong thing to do.
prateek noticing the thought process on dadajis face questions "kya soch rahe hai dadaji?"
dadaji: "yey ke hamne sahi kiya naa?"
prateek: "bilkul hamne bilkul theek kiya aur phir samar ne hein toe kaha tha. Ke uske leighyey ladki dhundna aapki responsibility hai aur woh aapne kiya."
Dadaji: Hah magar daar hai beta ke.. hamne galat failsla toe nahin le leghyay. Hamne us ladki ke baba ko hah toe kardi magar sirf yey dekh kar ke uska chera gauri se milta hai.
Prateek: "Hah toe is mein galat kya hai. agar chera gauri se milta hai toe shaayad this time around samar sirf shaadhi hein nahin pyaar bhi karega apne batcho ke leighyey hein nahi pyaar dhoonde ga magar appne aap ke leighyey bhi jeeyeygo woh." Somewhere down in there prateek knew that dadaji was right but something also told him that they had made the right decision.
Aarti: "Lekin yahi toe baat hai prateek. Woh ladki nahin educated hai nahin kabhi usne city dekhi hai aur bhaya se shaadhi? Jab unnone teen shaadhiya nakar di hai toe yey toe…" aarti stops half way thinking that maybe she shouldn't say such things but It was just the right time to stop as samar had walked in. with a flair that hadn't faided for years samars presence was welcomed like always in total silence. There was something about samars influence in the house which meant he was given total respect even by his friend. Walking into a suddenly silencing conversation samar always found it a little strange that he had that certain impact It was like walking into a classroom full of children as the head of school. Looking a little worried yet still carrying that certain charm samar made his way into the room and then stopped. Dressed in that certain attire..a deep blue shirt accompanied by a baby pink shirt that his daughter had picked for him samar gave of that attractive inlucence with a neat yet unshaved look but it had to be said a more fatherly edge to his dress sense was visible little softer look than usual all thanks to his daughter. As samar walked in..alls attention was drawn towards his presence and stopping giving a certain look to
Samar: "Kya hua?"
Dadaji: "Kuch nahin..beta, aaj kafi der hogayi tume office mein?"
Samar: "Hai dadaji woh kuch kaam tha toe.. dadaji nodded with a smile to samars comment."
Samar: Aap logogi trip kaisi rahi?
prateek: Theekh..
Samar: Good Acha..mein kafi thaak gaya hoon..toe chalta hoon goodnight
Dadaji: Ek minute samar woh..
Samar: Hah kahiyey
Dadaji: Woh…jaisa tumne kaha tha beta. Hamne tumare leighyey ek rishta dhoondha hai. aur hah bhi kardi hai. yey us ladki ki tasvir. "Uska naam shivangi hai"
Samar smiles slighty.. "is ki koi sarurat nahin hai dadaji. Aap shadhi ki tayari kejiyey." Maybe the relevance of the name said it all for samar. Shiv- angi the fact that the name was associated to his late brother. Saying so he leaves and walking down the various corridors of kapoor house taking a look at his wrist watch to see the time 12.30pm makes a certain note in his mind and strolling down the corridor removes his blazer on the way swinging it naturally off and wrapping in his arms he stops just outside one of the bedrooms. The door to the room partially open samar peaks into the room and his eyes fall on the angelic sleeping faces of his children. The room of a pale yellow shade gives of the vibrance of child inhabitance and overlooking the mess of scattered toys colouring books and stationary samar doges it all walking in carefully he takes a seat next to the little girl who seems to be sleeping with a certain photoframe. Taking it away from her grip slowly samar smiles at the innocence of his daughter and then tucks into bed neatly placing a kiss on her cheek. Samar has a certain rountine for each of his children if one needs to be tucked in the other has his thumb taken of his mouth….the third needs his glasses removed and the fourth simply needs to be admired. A routine that samar goes through every night and the only one thing that puts a smile on his face at times.
…………… walking into his room throwing his blazer onto his bed samars attention is swayed in one direction. As he walks to one of the walls in his room and stops close to it smiles and the framed photograph in hanging. A photograph of his wife gauri. spending hours talking to his wife this again has become one of samars traits. For things he cant tell the world ..for emotion he can only hide outside is all revealed in the form of tears, laughter, sadness and anger all in front of this one photograph.
Loosing the buttons of his shirt as he prepares for a change of clothing..samars shares his thoughts with his wife. Going about his task he makes conversation with his wife.. walking around the room does as per his night routine. Picking up a change of clothes, pouring glass of water..
" aap yey jaana chahegi ke aapke pati ka din kaise ghusra?? Looking at the potraite samar looked rather proud.. saatch kahoon naa toe inta bhi bura nahin tha. Tum jaanti ho tumare pati ne fir businessman of the year ka award jeeta hai." looking up towards the picture samar shares his joy in the form of a smile. "magar yey baat bhi hai ke mein phirse ek rishte mein judne walo hoon. itni baar naakamyaab hone ke baad bhi tumari khwahish pura karna chahta hoon. hamare batche ko ek maa ki saroorat hai…." saying so samar spends a thoughtful moment looking at the photograph.
Taking his leave from gauri getting changed and then at last wishing her good night and telling her how much he loves her before going to sleep.
………………………….On the other hand the very girl samar is to marry spends equally as touching moments speaking to her farther. On the banks of the ganga…a girl with the face of gauri sits looking upon the running water running levels under the platform she is sitting on. Dressed in a white churidar dress and covered head as to comply with tradition she comes across to have a hint of village characteristic to her…innocent but maybe too much for her own good. For one who has spent her time in the ralms of a place where there is only simplicity devotion and the bare necessities of life shivangi is at the complete opposite extent of life. Spending her life in small village where time has stood still for years. No use of technology no essence of equality between male and female or importance to female education. shivangi spends her time taking refuge in the purity of the banks of the ganga much like these moments
Farther: "Kya soch rahi ho shivangi"
Shivangi: "Kuch nahin baba"Kuch dino mein ..mein yaha se chali jaaongi…
……………………………
A week later and the morning before the wedding all the respective couples of the family are in there own room getting ready. As prateek looks for his certain sherwani… aarti expresses her concerns. "Prateek kya aapne bhaiya ko batayay ke shivangi ka chehra gauri bhabhi se milta hai." now that was a question prateek really didn't want to answer because answering it wouldn't make him the most popular person around. With a fake yet amusing expression of reassurance Prateek is cautious in answering.
Dropping his wardrobe search prateek turns to face aarti with caution. "Aarti actually nahin batayay."
Aarti : "Kya?!"
Prateek: "Woh I figured ke agar ham batate toe woh pehle se hein naa karde ta and there would be no chance at least aisa baat toe bansakti hai."aarti looks and prateek in total disbelieve.
………………………
Meanwhile as druv gets ready for work is bombarded with gayatris nagging.
Gayatri: Druv muje naa daar lag raha hai
Druv: Kis baat ka gayatriiiii….???
Gayatri: "Yey ke kahi samarbhai saab hamari nayi bhabhi ko bhi dusri teen ki tara nikal naa de."
Druv: "Don't be stupid gayatri..aisa kuch nahin hoga. Dadaji ne kaha naa ke woh gauri bhabhi ki hamshakal hai. toe bhaiya aisa kaise karsakte hai."
Gayatri: "Wahi toe hamshakal hai druv gauri bahi toe nahin. woh toe padi lihki bhi nahin hai.. gaaon ke rehne wali aur samar bhai saab toe..buisnessman aur unka ghuza toe… muje lagta hai ke yey bhabhi bhi dusri teen ki tara.."
Druv: "Shut up! Gayatri.."
………………………….
In aasthas and vivans room.. aasta is all ready taking a leave when vivan questions her.
Vivan: "Kaha jaa rahi ho aasta?"
Aastha: "Woh mandir.."
Vivan: "Itne subhe shube ?"
Aaastha: "Hah aaj bhot kaam hai aur muje samar bhayay ke leighyey prathna karni hai..bhagvan kare ke samar bhaiyay ko phirse ghusiya mil jaayey..mein chahti hoon ke sabkuch teekh ho jaiyey."
Evening and 10 minutes prior to the wedding Prateek enter samars room to call for him. Entering his room prateek is faced with the back of samar. Looking at that certain photograph of gauri and undoubtedly sharing personal moments prateek feels a little hisstant to intruppt but does so taking a few steps back silently and knocking on the door. Hearing the noise made samars turns to face prateek. Dressed in near enough the same sheriwani was prateek was the glow of white added to samars appearance but expression he carried was of only displeasure. Stern expression which was ready for what was coming at at prateek. "Im ready chale." Being to take steps that would take him out of his room samar was stopped by prateek.
Prateek: "ruko lssamar..uske baare mein kuch bhi jaana nahi chahte ho"
Samar : "Nahin"
Prateek: Kuch bhi nahain?
Samar: "is ki koi saroorat nahin hai.. saroori yey hai ke woh mere batcho ko pyaar aur parvarish de aur iske leighyey muje introduction ki saroorat nahin hai." saying so samar walks out the room leaving prateek in thought. In kapoor house the wedding alter takes its place and samar so used to this situation like the last three times sees only family present as he had asked for. The children kept away from the restriction of school and strictly only the people who were required to be around. Walking in samar takes his place next to his bride who is covered with an ghoonghat. Giving all importance to carrying out the ceremony samar concentrates on just that showing no curiosity in his bride whilst shivangi as per a brides norm is nervous. With the completion of the wedding sindoor mangalsutra and seven promises to one and other samar has not yet seen his brides face. Hidden under the red ghoongat which was only opened silitiy by samar when needed his attention was never drawn to her face. As the marriage is complete and the rituals with it are tied up,aastha and gayatri escort shivangi to samars bedroom. Walking into the room under her bridal outfit the consistence of the ghoongat is still there, sensing the ambience of the room around her shivangi has already been amazed by the grandness of kapoor house and even the simple everyday elements but this room was something else. As aastha and gayatri sit shivangi down on the rose petaled bed..leave with there last comments. "good luck bhabhi.." saying so both leave with a smile but a worried feeling within. Hearing the closing of the door from a distance shivangi feels the silence of being alone. Feeling the natural nervousness of a bride within shivangi gets up from her seated position on the bed and walks around the room. Amazed by simple elements in the room that she had never seen in her life. The comfort of a sofa..non existent to where she lived. Armchair was more familiar but walking towards a certain door..the washroom she was unknown to what it could be. Having never seen such grandness she was amazed. Walking around the room silently she made note of every feature. First the central bed..rose petals which symbolised her anxiousness, the certain wardrobes to the right. Mirror and dressing table and a armchair which sat in front of a photograph hung on the wall. Walking towards it she was amazed. For she knew of her husbands past relationships and the fact that his love and first wife looked like herself but to this extent she did not expect. Looking through the red martial that covered her face in the form of her ghoongat shivangi could make out what see saw to be a spitting image of herself. Before she could make further assumption of her surroundings footsteps were apparent. Footsteps which were coming from outside the room and were making there way closer, hearing so in all her nervousness shivangi walked to the centre of the room lowering her expression to the floor as she heard the certain thud of the door being opened. Taking very defined steps that stopped at distance from shivangi it was noticeable that samar had given himself a change of attire. Dressed in his own signature style all black look. Samars sherwani had been placed by a black shirt and complementary trousers. Looking over that certain bridal posture samar waited a few seconds before speaking but in that time shivangi had senced the silence and was slowly heading for the glass of milk that sat on the bedside table only when stopped by samar. "ek, minute" hearing the comment she stopped in her tracks going back to a more histant and silent mannersium.
"Mein tumse kuch baat karna chahta hoon." saying so samar turned his back on shivangi and slipping his hands into his pockets took view of the hanging potratie of gauri whilst speaking.
"Hamari shaadhi hue hai, aur mein jantaa hoon ke mere parivar walo ne is rishte se phele sab kuch baatadiya hoga. Phir bhi mein tumse kehna chahta hoon ke Yey ke meine shaadhi ki hai toe sirf appne parivar ke leighyey, aapne batcho ke leighyey. Une ek maa ki saroorat hai. satachyee yey hai ke ek pati ki tara mein tumse kabhi pyaar nahin kar paaonga. Mein abhi bhi gauri se pyaar karta hoon aur hamesha karoonga is leighyey mere aur tumare bheech mein hamesha ek duri hogi. Agar tume yey mansoor nahahin hai toe tum yey riste se mukar sakti ho. Magar mein sirf yey kahoonga ke mere parivaar vale yey samaj te hai ke tum is ghar ki bahu bane ke laayak ho aur mere batcho ki maa. Pati hone ke naate mein apna har farse nibhaoonga sivayey pyaar ke. Mere kayee rishte hoone hai magar pyaar meine sirf aur sirf gauri se kiya isleighyey mein tumare man mein koi jhoothi umeed pehda nahin karna chahta." Turning to look at her samar was faced by the same posture under the ghoongat but knew very well that his words would have hurt. No matter how much anyone would have explained the situation it would cause pain but it was reality and hiding that would be unfair. Under the very ghoongat a sadness sawed within for when her farther had alienced the relationship prateek seemed to have hope that things would prevail but judging from her husbands words this did not seem as so. Keeping quite with her thoughts..there was just silence between the two until looking around the room for a rectifying moment samar was to make movement but before doing so shivangi walked to the bedside table and picking up the glass of milk bought it slowly prompting for samar to take. Looking at her and then the certain glass samar took the glass and drank from it. finishing It he walked back to the table replacing as to where it came from and then looked over to see her still standing in that posture. Realising that she was still covered with that ghoongat samar walked over stopping infront of her slowly pulled up her ghoongat over her head to see the face of his wife. As for shivangi she saw a glimse of her husband for the very first time and noticed that certain mannerisum he carried, she could feel the very aruthoritive figure her husband was and in fear or even nervousness failed to make eye contact whilst samar seeing gauris very expression the amazement. shock within took over silently. As the expression of bewilderment took over samar was stunned. Staring at her for a second not moving his eyes a glimpse there was a certain lost sense to his expression until snapping out into reality and being samar kapoor and putting two and two together made realisation of his families intentions. Still a hint of that shock and overpowering judgment samar questioned..
samar: "tumara naam kya hai?" with a sense of sharpness to his question shivangi was left a little on edge by the way samar had asked his question but shivangi in all her nervousness and worry answered silently. The fact that her husband was unaware of her name or even just confirming wasn't the ideal situation for a knew bride. " ..ji.shhivangi"
"hum…" rubbing is forehead with a certain distress samar made view of shivangis expression all the while thinking something. Worried as to what samars reaction would be shivangi kept quite. .
Samar: "Tum janti ho ke tumara chehra.."
Shivangi: "Ji..ji woh..prateek bhai saahab ne kaha" thinking over the strangeness of this situation samar was able to predict the way in which dadaji and prateeks thought process must have run when agreeing to this alliance. Somewhat displeasure at the situation could be seen on samars expression yet a longing pleasure that had been provoked by seeing what was his wifes face after years. Taking a step back samars conclusion of the situation began to form and with that hint of irration at his family and the situation samar taking a look over shivangi took note of things calmly.
Samar: "Theekh hai, Tum behtho", saying so samar turned to thinking about things further until he saw that the girl was about to take a seat on the floor and corrected his words. "Nahin floor pein nahin, waha upar." Hearing the words from samar and stopping in-between doing so shivangi took a seat silently on the edge of the bed. Thinking that it was a little strange for her to think of taking a seat on the floor samar didn't think about it too much he was more concerned with what his family had got him into and with that walking towards his cupboard for a change of clothes picked out his night suite still thinking about things he headed for the restroom.
15 minutes later and as shivangi spent moments of anxiety about her new relationship, thought over what samar had told her. samar made his way out of the restroom and looking up in the direction from where the certain thud of a door opening was coming from shivangi took one glance up to see that samar wasn't changed. He was still in his previous attire and looked to in some sort of thought. Sensing eyes on him samar took a look at shivangi who feeling his gaze dropped her own and stood up with instance. Overwhelmed by the situation in general samar had nothing to say to her only words which were of necessity. This time stroking his beard in thought samar knew he couldn't spend all his time in such bewilderment. Walking towards the bed and past shivangi samar reached onto the bed and pulling a single pillow and then glancing towards shivangi spoke. "tum yaha so jaaaon mein waha sofe pein sojata hoon." saying so samar walked to the sofa in the corner of the room and dropping the pillow casually on it took a seat removing his shoes pushed them away whilst laying to sleep. on the other hand shivangi too did the same taking a place on the bed silently made effort to fall asleep…..
As time passed through the night shivangi had fallen asleep although samars sleep was disturbed, looking around for a second samar glanced over the bed and so that shivangi wasn't sleeping on the bed. Confused by the thought his eyes happen to trail and dropping to the floor he sees her sleeping next to the bed but on the floor with the aid of a single pillow. Finding her behaviour somewhat strange samar overlooks in and goes back thinking about the situation, this certain girl he married. The choice his family had made…samar began to think over everything and eventually as time passed he managed to find peace dreaming of his wife..gauri.
