I appreciate this topic - men or women , Eastern or Western - alcohol
consumption is a bad habit . What starts as social drinking ends up
to be an obsession. Other than the physical ailments that can be
caused, the psychological impact on others around an abuser is
monumental. Kids get to watch the parents drinking and loosing
control - what kind of childhood those kids have?? And what will
they be when they grow old? And if a mother is breast feeding, the
infant gets a dose right from the time they are born?? Appalling !!!
What I find somewhat hard to digest is the fact that many of the Indian women here seem to enjoy a drink or two and ask for their gin and tonic or whatever the minute they enter a house. The hypocrisy is that some of these women have said that alcohol should not be allowed in their houses and keep the alcohol in the garage in their houses. I sit and wonder why there is a need for this hypocrisy. I have even seen some of them refusing drinks when their parents or inlaws come to this country, and then going back to their drinks when the parents go back.
