IIFA to honour decade's top most Bollywood achievers
New Delhi: IIFA awards clock ten years of the annual act. Little wonder then that organizers are looking at felicitating people for their contributions to Hindi cinema in the last decade.
Heading the list of nominees for the IIFA Star of the Decade in Male category is Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan, who has successfully experimented with his roles and looks in several blockbusters like Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, and Ghajini.
Another hot favourite is superstar Shah Rukh Khan! Not only did he deliver money spinning hits like Kal Ho Naa Ho and Om Shanti Om but he has also garnered critical acclaim for his films Swades and Chak De India.
Daredevil actor Akshay Kumar is another contender. This action star successfully transformed into a comedy king in the last decade with hits like the Hera Pheri series, Heyy Baby, and Singh is Kinng to his credit.
Hrithik Roshan is also in the running! After a dream debut in 2000 with Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Hrithik followed it up with box office hits like Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish and Jodhaa Akbar.
Abhishek Bachchan is also an actor to reckon with, something that he proven with films like Yuva and more recently Mani Ratnam's Guru.
The final nominee in this category is Salman Khan who is hanging in there with his hits like Tere Naam, No Entry and Partner.
Amongst contenders for the same award in Female category are Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at the top of the pile.
Critics and masses alike have raved about her films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Guru and most recently Jodhaa Akbar. And of course being a regular at Cannes also helps.
Others in the running for the trophy of IIFA Star of Decade (Female) are Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta as well as Priyanka Chopra.
Kareena's rendering of the glamorous and bratty Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham to the more recently motor mouth girl next door Geet in Jab We Met also make her a strong contender.
Also on the list is the Aatikya Khandala girl, Rani Mukherji who has given many outstanding performances in the last decade in films like Yuva, Bunty Aur Babli and of course Black.
Braveheart and of late cricket entrepreneur Preity Zinta makes her presence felt with her memorable roles in Kal Ho Na Ho, Lakshya, and Dil Chahta Hai in the past 10 years.
The youngest nominee is Priyanka Chopra who has been appreciated for diverse roles in Krrish, Dostana and Fashion.
Amongst filmmakers who are in the race for the IIFA Director of the Decade honour is Sanjay Leela Bhansali whose spellbinding Black, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas are also the contenders for the Film of the Decade Award.
Also nominated is Ashutosh Gowarikar whose Academy Award nominated Lagaan is in the run for the Film of the Decade Honour.
The man who delighted us with the Munnabhai series, Raj Kumar Hirani is also vying for the Best Director's title.
Veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra and his Indo-Pak love story Veer Zaara makes it to the list of nominees for Best Director and Best Film of the Decade respectively.
He's followed by Rakesh Roshan whose film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai has been nominated for the Film of the Decade honour.
And the youngest of the lot competing for the Director of the Decade is Shimit Amin. In fact Shimit's out of the box Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chak De India is also in the run to win the IIFA Film of the Decade Award.
Other contenders for the Film of the Decade include Dharma Production's breezy romantic drama Kal Ho Na Ho and UTV Motion Pictures' cult hit Rang De Basanti.
