Fire-breathing dragon 'very, very tough' for ILM

Visual effects company ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) worked for 16 weeks to perfect the look of the flames emitted from the Hungarian Horntail's mouth during the First Task, and supervisor Tim Alexander spoke about the challenges it presented in an interview with Computer Graphics World:

At the end of the process, the team also composited live action footage into the fireballs - film they shot of liquid fuel flamethrowers. "The elements worked as well as they did because it was late in the process, so we could shoot very specific elements," Alexander says. "And, we could shoot the fire at full scale; we didn't have to create gigantic explosions."

"The fire was very, very tough," he adds. "It really pushed our envelope."

Stan named Bulgarian 'Personality of the Year'
	Stanislav Ianevski, who plays Viktor Krum in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was named the Bulgarian "Personality of the Year" in the Sofia News Agency's entertainment category today. Conceptual artist Christo came in second place with a mere 10% of the vote

GOF going high-def
	Video Business is reporting today that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, King Kong, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy will be some of the first movies released on high-definition digital discs (Blu-ray Discs) later this year. More information is expected to be released at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
