The marriage reception for Bollywood star Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao hosted here Monday by her parents turned out to be a low-key affair, with only friends and relatives of the bride calling in to wish the newly-weds.
About 100 guests were present at the afternoon reception hosted by Kiran's parents at the Bangalore Club in the heart of the city. Film stars and celebrities were conspicuous by their absence.
The couple drove into the club in a Toyoto Innova, a luxury car endorsed by Aamir as its brand ambassador, and spent about four hours with the guests.
Dressed in a white zari saree with a gold border, Kiran introduced Aamir, who wore a black suit and blue shirt, to her parents, relatives and friends.
A large posse of security guards and policemen in plain clothes were seen swarming around Bangalore Club, which Sir Winston Churchill used to frequent when he was a young lieutenant in the British cantonment here.
Following a spat between the media and Aamir's security guards at Panchgani during another reception held last week, scribes were not allowed to cover the reception held on the lawns of the club.
A photojournalist said press photographers and TV crews were kept away from the couple and guests by some bouncers, who said it was a private reception and the media had not been invited.
"With great difficulty, we managed to click Aamir and Kiran greeting relatives and friends from a distance, using zoom lens. The bouncers formed a security ring around the couple and did not allow any of us to take close shots," the photojournalist said.
Aamir and Kiran had a registered marriage Dec 28 in Mumbai. The following day, they held a reception at Panchagani hill station, where Bollywood stars and other celebrities were present.
This was Aamir's second marriage. He met Kiran on the sets of his film "Lagaan", on which she had served as an assistant director.
