I'm guessing its cuz the groom's family demands such high dowry that the bride's family, generally, cannot fulfill. So the next best thing to do is become a "Gunda" and force the groom to marry the bride. I don't know, that's what I think...

Hi!

In some parts of rural Bihar,Mp,Up and jharkhand this custom of marrying grooms forcebly is still in practise-its not mythical-i feel this show is a wonderful eye opener to such people who forcefully marry off well educated grooms like IAS IPS IRS Doctors also are kidnapped and forced to marry .This practise stems from another social evil called dowry .To evade/avoid giving hefty dowry sums which i s otherwise unthinkable to bride parents-they resort to this by paying some money to goons.
Also the lure of having a star son inlaw in the form of IAS,IPS, Doctor is also another reason.

But why would the parents believe that a man who has been forced in to a marriage with their daughter would actually treat them right?

It's actually like what happened with Bindiya's friend - Usha (?)
Surely no marriage is better than an unhappy marriage?😕

The people consider girls in UP-Bihar as a burden
I belong to UP and can well relate to it

And you guys can also quite well understand this by the way Bindiya's Mom was hitting her daughters and was eagerly desperate to marry Bindiya off even by paying huge dowry by taking loans which Bindiya's father can't afford and hence does not want to take

An also we can see this in the way Bindiya's friend's parents wanted to literally get rid of her by marrying her off some way or the other

and a well-paid Groom is not always the requirement
They want a Groom belonging to the same community or else their name will get ruined
This might not be shown in this serial but this is also the case....

Why? they could've got a well paid Groom for their daugheter at a less or no dowry if he himself had halied from a poor family .........
