India, Mumbai bound?

This is a show that seems to have a lot of promise. It is based on a call centre and its workings -- that itself is a subject that has not been explored as yet on Indian television.

After making urban shows like Lipstick and Remix, one would have expected Rose Audiovisuals' show, India Calling to open in an urban metropolis. But the first shot took us to Jalandhar in a village that looks at Mumbai with wide eyed wonder.....

Chandni, the main protagonist does not only wear a Bunty Babli salwar suit, but her dreams too are inspired by the big screen diva, although, she dreams small. She wants to go to Mumbai to find out what the city is all about, before she gets married. Mansi Parekh delivers an effortless performance as Chandni, although she has to be consistent and show that extra zing to attract viewers, who are spoilt for choice at 9:30 pm on weekdays.

Another surprise package is Russhad Rana, who does a good job as the scorned groom to be, but surprisingly, he doesn't waste any time finding another bride for himself. Well, to be fair, Russhad's character looked more interested in Chandni than her elder sister from the beginning of the show.

There are many people who where of the view that the show started on a very slow

pace...well, the pace was definitely slow, but to give credit to the makers, this seemed necessary with the anticipated hustle bustle of Mumbai that's sure to come next week.

In the last scene of last week, we meet the male lead, Vipul Gupta, who in turn, meets Chandni in a scene that is reminicent of the train scene in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
All in all, the start of this show is a little different from the trademark Shrishti Arya show, but once the scene shifts to Mumbai, we are sure to see much more of her modern trendy woman...whom we have grown to love!

One more thing...Chandni could have done without those irritating side curls, or were they a crucial part of her image??
