From a call centre to Kitani Mohabbat Hai: K rules for Karan Kundra
We've seen many stars, who prefix, suffix or infix those extras to their names for lady luck's favour, but for actor Karan Kundra, the two Ks in his name have already proven lucky at the first go. The male lead of Balaji's Kitani Mohabbat Hai on NDTV Imagine was in Ahmedabad on Monday, talking about himself and his maiden show.
The K-factor is now almost synonymous with Ekta Kapoor, and Karan too is amazed at the coincidence. But, it was his photographs that became the first thing in getting him the lead role of Arjun Punj.
"I had sent some of my photographs to Ekta on Facebook. She liked it, we met and I got the role. There was no audition as such," he informs. Neither an acting course, rather, "some workshops about the character and the show".
So what does he like about Arjun? "Arjun has an intense character and follows his set principles. But he never smiles and I'm always smiling," he says. Karan was one of the finalists in the Mr India 2008 contest and was judged Mr Style Statement. But, acting wasn't on his agenda. An alumnus of Mayo College (Ajmer), he was pursuing his MBA in Florida, US and was just back before he jumped on to the Balaji bandwagon. He also runs a call centre in Jalandhar.
You wonder whether he had ever watched any of the innumerable soaps on television, and he says with a smile, "Honestly speaking, never. I was more inclined to the Discovery and National Geographic channels. But I remember having watched Kyunki…a bit because my mother used to watch it." Well, well, the K-link continues!
As of now, it's a hectic routine with even weekends spent on the sets, but this adventure-loving guy says that he doesn't believe in taking headaches in life. He's pretty chilled out about his future too. "I haven't planned anything. I take life as it comes, it gives me a flow and I manage to work with it," he says and adds that though offers do come from the industry, but he's currently focusing on what he is doing.
