Beauty contests and top model telecasting have become a trend, be it in the east or west.

What are the views on it? Are they harmful? Or on the contrary are they benefitting?
(I would love to hear views on it and I will provide my own opinion also later on the topic)
Thanks!

Don't want to ponder over the harms or benefits right now but I do know that they make a pretty good eye candy. It is also fun to see some successful beauty queens now, like Aish and Sush, and compare their current look to the look they carried during the contest. One can see how success changes people.

My views are scattered on this issue.
Firstly the pageants and beauty contests that are held these days are utterly superficial and completely pointless. What are the contestans judged on-- How beautiful they are? How well they can carry off a swim-suit? How well they can carry a smile? Hou much more skinnier they can get? Very repulsive indeed. If that's the criteria, then lord save us from it! Young girls that are already concious in this shallow world form an unrealistic image in their minds and then attempt to follow the models. It would be wrong for me to say that all of the eating disorders that exist in this world is due to beauty contests, however, such exhibitions do contribute fairly to the situation. Heck, I would also stop eating if I constantly saw those long-legged ladies with flat stomachs on the ramp every week! Thank God, I don't. 😆
Secondly, another aspect of these contests that distract me are the questions contestants are asked and then judged accordingly to that. The diplomatic questions such as "What would you do to eliminate poverty" or "How is the education system" are scope-full questions but a few lines given by the contestants on these vital issues are not enough. Mind you, but I have not seen a single winner go out of their way to fix poverty or the education system. Thus, simply adding in questions in a beauty contest does not suddenly bring in intellecutality to the contests.
I have seen refutations on this issue and many argue back stating that beauty contests are a step toward equality for promoting feminism and it showcases the confident generation of women in this century. Please! I do not even know what to say back to the feminists. Yes, it does show the progress of the women, but just one sector out of four. The other three sectors of women are not represented clearly and I believe that many girls develop inferiority complex due to such TV shows.
Ok so may be I am cynical, but I would like to hear out the positive side to the story as well.
Thanks. 😊

Three cheers to you.
You speak of guys on this issue which I clearly did not think about. I was associating beauty contests with women.
Hmm, I wonder if the standards are different for men and women.
