Sallu gifts Govinda a lucky charm

Govinda has been gifted a lucky charm by his new best friend, Salman Khan, as Sallu thinks it will ward off the evil eye and prevent his pal from land ing in more trouble this year. Salman also has an identical bracelet, which he wears at all times and credits it for protecting him. Now Govinda too doesn't leave home without his charm. Can't blame the actor for being a tad superstitious as poor Govinda began the year on a bad note after he slapped one of his fans on the sets of his forthcoming film Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. His woes didn't end there as he was accused of causing the film's producer, Kumar Mangat, a loss of Rs 15 lakhs as he didn't turn up for shooting the next day.

When asked about his gift, an excited Govinda said, "Yes, Salman gifted this to me after the thappad controversy." The actor also added, "Isse dimmag thanda rehata hai, (the mind is calm with this). Salman loves me a lot. That's why he takes care of me and gives me nice gifts as well. When I needed help and work, Salman was there for me. He is still there for me and I am enjoying his friendship." The lucky bracelet certainly is a good gift to get as Salman's year has started off on a positive note. With his wax statue unveiled at Madame Tussaud's Museum, the actor got to revel in some international glory.

Sallu has also gifted his wax statue an identical bracelet. Guess he doesn't want his statue to lose its cool and create a nuisance for Ash's wax replica that is also housed in the same museum.

It's a well-known fact that Salman Khan is a large-hearted guy. He's known to give generous gifts to people - whether it's gifting a Mercedes Benz to Govinda or two Rolex watches to Zayed Khan.

But Sallu bhai's gifting spree has, of late, become a cause of concern for the Khan family, as the annual budget for his magnanimous gestures have begun to run into a couple of crores!

Gift control

From here on, the Khan-daan has decided to control Sallu's gifting habit. And they've instructed the actor's staff - his driver, spot boy, Bodyguard - to keep a check on Sallu's spending habits.

Khan's employees, spend more time with him than his family does, so they've been instructed to prevent Khan from gifting away a watch. (The actor is also known to slip off the watch off his palm and give it away. Much like the maharajas of the yore.) And if Salman's staff fails to curb the actor's 'enthusiasm', then they stand to lose their job!

'Watch'ing Sallu

Getting into details of the family meeting, the source reveals, "The family called for an intervention. All the people who work closely with Salman have been strictly instructed to prevent him from giving away a watch. If any employee can't prevent it, that person will lose his job.

They can stop Salman, argue, run away, or snatch the watch. The person who doesn't do anything uski vaat lagegi!"

Our source further adds, "The family decided to take this course of action after Salman gifted two expensive Rolex watches to Zayed recently. Each watch that he gifts, costs anything between Rs 8 to 15 lakh. They are mostly state-of-the-art Rolex watches and over the years, he has gifted watches worth over three crore!"

Lucky charms

According to sources, Salman has gifted away at least 15 watches to people around him over the years. And his gifts have brought luck to most of them, including Shah Rukh, Abhishek, and Farah Khan. SRK got a watch during the making of Karan Arjun, Abhishek got his gift before Dhoom 2 and Farah before Main Hoon Naa.

Some of the other people whom he has given watches to, include the technicians of Tumko Na Bhool Payenge, the director of Marigold, Willard Carroll and Will Smith, apart from Zayed recently."

Sallu's standards

Zayed Khan confirms that Salman gifted him two Rolex watches during the Rockstars tour in May-June this year. "Salman has given me two Rolex watches." They must be very expensive? "But then Salman has very high standards apart from being a wonderful human being," Zayed smiles.

No big deal

When quizzed, Salman's brother, Sohail Khan laughs uncomfortably. "Why are people blowing these things out of proportion and making it such a big deal? It is not just watches, but bhai gives other things, too. These are Salman's little gestures of expressing his fondness for the people he comes close to. And if he feels that the friendship is worth it, he gives the person a gift. Why should the family impose any restrictions on him?"
