8X10 TASVEER - A biggest disaster?
Akshay Kumar's 8X10 TASVEER has proven to be a bigger disaster than some of the biggest disappointments of 2008. The film has gathered less than 8 crores at the box office in its opening week; a number which is less than that of LOVE STORY 2050, DRONA, YUVVRAAJ and KARZZZZ which were the biggest losers of 2008.
The collections say it all. LOVE STORY 2050, the launch-pad of Hurman Baweja, was much maligned by one and all. The film had collected close to 11 crores in its first week only to fold up under 13 crores. DRONA was even worse. Its first week's collections fell short by a few lakhs while coming close to 10 crores. It eventually just about managed to touch that figure.
YUVVRAAJ was a little better though at 13 crores but a disaster nevertheless as it folded up at 17 crores. As for KARZZZZ, its performance was similar to DRONA as it came close to 10 crores in the first week and ended its run at 11 crores.
Let's talk about year 2009. If one compares the box office performance of this Nagesh Kukunoor film with some other flicks that have released this year, it only paints a sorry picture. While RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES and DEV D, the only two successful films of the year so far, brought home 20 crores and 8.5 crores respectively in their first week, even flops like LUCK BY CHANCE (10.5 crores), BILLU (18 crores), DELHI 6 (22 crores), CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA (26 crores) were far better!
However, 8X10 TASVEER clearly surpasses them all when it comes to a horrific box office performance. At 8 crores, it is several notches below each of the aforementioned films, hence proving to be a mother of all disasters.
Akshay Kumar has delivered flops earlier too but even then TASHAN and CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA hadn't met with such severe rejection from the audience as has been the case with 8X10 TASVEER!
