Rani's Top Films

Rani Mukerji is one of the finest actresses of her generation. Each performance she delivers is flawless and stays with you long after you have seen the film. On the occasion of her birthday on March 21, 2009, we pick a collection of Rani's films that you must see.

Black: What a moving film. Rani delivered an angst-filled, touching performance of blind-deaf-mute girl Michelle McNally in this career-defining role. She held her own against Amitabh Bachchan. Words cannot describe the beauty of the film that moved us to tears. The scene about 'dreams' is one of the most memorable ones. Do yourself a favour and watch the movie again.

Hum Tum: If you love lighthearted romantic comedies, Hum Tum is the way to go. It offers you the double treat of Rani and Saif, who
share the right chemistry. You will definitely relate to how they go from enemies to friends to lovers. Rani's character progressed wonderfully and she was perfect, as usual. A delightful way to spend your afternoon!

Yuva: Mani Ratnam's adaptation of Amores Perros showed us what Rani is capable of. She didn't have much screen time but her performance was spontaneous, raw and powerful. She shared some crackling chemistry with Abhishek Bachchan. Watch this well-directed movie with A R Rahman's tunes and brilliant performances from its stellar cast. That is, if you haven't already!

Saathiya: She played a simple girl who defies her family to marry the guy she loves. Rani delivered another brilliant performance that was complemented perfectly by then-newbie Vivek Oberoi. With A R Rahman's lilting and addictive tunes and a story you will relate to, Saathiya is the ideal romantic watch for the weekend.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: How can this list be complete without the movie that launched her Bollywood career? With her pretty face, gorgeous locks and toned figure, she became the 'Tina' every guy wanted to take home to his mother. Her tiny skirts made us drool while her death made us shed buckets of tears. With laughter, fun, tears, great songs, costumes and acting, KJo's directorial debut is a cult film that you can never tire of.
