I live in the USA and my family is from Pakistan..
so i just was wanting to ask an open question to all
From seeing the show most if not all you see are dances of streetbreakers and hip hop .and a minimum of actual traditional dancing (be it bollywood or traditional)
I was really looking forward to seeing a competition that represented actual Indian Heritage..but i don't think this show is doing it.
The dancers and even judges are not really representing any Culture besides the western Culture.
Anyone else feel this way? Whats up with all the street dancing and hip hop? Its nice but i see that stuff on MTV all the time! and i haven't been to India before but...i dont' think this show is necessarily representing the Indian Talent...culturally
what do you say?
( this post is not intended to offend anyone )

That's an interesting point...but at the same time dance is universal>

I would like to see regional dances, like punjabi, tamil, gujrati...etc.

I am from India and I agree with you..

dances from India itself is so vast and different.. I don't know why we should ape the west.. now and then is ok but almost all dances are western inspire.

Frankly I am bit disappointing but still DID is my Fav programme

Hmm I agree to a certain extent but Bollywood dancing isn't a certain genre of dance, i've always seen it as a mix of things. Its not kathak/bharatnaiyam and neither is it rajasthani folk dance or anything of that sort, its more of a fusion but has that Indian feel to it. Its hard to classify the dances a lot of the times-for me anyway.
But because the judges are of such a high callibre, they have to show off their moves too and on such a HUGEE platform, just bollywood traditional dancing won't do. I guess if we wanna see Bollywood dances we could just flick over to JDJ OR NB4. Two flop programmes in my eyes. You can see the difference in standards of dancing already. ;)

DID is following So U think U can Dance show....Alteast trying to.....

If you look at it like that than none of the Indian reality based dance competition shows are based on True traditional indian dance..
And to follow western dance they only can partly copy Hip-Hop and so called crumping but Latin-ballroom dance is very hard to dance w/o proper training....That is where most contestant failed in copying...
JDJ, Nach Baliye, DID and B/W...
B/W has alot more traditional classical dance performances than any other show....
You do have a good point...I wish they would compete in Indian type dancing which should have more emphasis on classical and not bollywood type street dancing...I can't stand Govinda and Ganesh type dancing...

I agree completely. Indian dance show as not Indian at all. I guess that its not easy to do a classical Indian dance if you have not trained for it. But, I would like to see more of indian folk dances from different states of India. That souldn't be difficult.
