There seem to be quite a few films that initially were unsuccessful, commercial disaster's at the box office when they first released, but later become 'cult' films with a large fan following. And so eventually everyone forgets the box office figures and the film is seen as a classic/hit.
I think it will be interesting to comply some sort of list of these 'cult classic's', to see why they were rejected initially, and what it is about them that later made them what they today.
For example:
Kaagaz Ke Phool - Released in 1959, starring Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rehman, was a huge disaster at the box office due to it being too complex for the audience at that particular time. People hated it so much, that apparently they threw stones at the screen! However, nowadays it is considered one of Guru Dutt's best works, and is loved by most.
Have you seen the film? If so did you love it or hate it?
Feel free to discuss this film and others!
