Anas Rashid Interviewes</FONT> <FONT size=4>One of the biggest Primetime historical series, Prithvi Raj Chauhan has always kept its viewers hooked to the Television sets. After getting a huge success, the series has now crossed another milestone with Prithvi Raj Chauhan getting a more youthful look. He will be seen winning crucial battles, accepting major challenges and leading himself to become the leader. Anas Rashid, who has already executed his acting skills in big soaps like Kahiin Toh Hoga, has now accepted this challenge of playing this very role of a historical character as Yuva Prithvi Raj Chauhan.

Anas Rashid feels great and very responsible to make an entry into this historical series with high TRP. "It is a huge responsibility on my shoulders to maintain the image of Prithvi Raj Chauhan. We have read in the history books about him, and will have an image of his in our mind. To fulfill that image is very difficult. I am working very hard towards it. And as a team, we are trying to do everything possible so that viewers get to know the Indian history and understand this leader. I feel more responsible because I need to put myself in the place of the great king". So, how were you approached for this role? "The auditions had been taking place for the past 12 months and the team could not find anyone suitable for this role. They needed someone who can replace Rajat and someone who also looks similar to him. My secretary came to know about it, and asked me to give an audition. I was tested for various aspects like horse riding, how comfortable I am with using the weapons etc. Later, I was selected for the role and I am very happy to have got it".

As this role is of a historical character, Anas also had to prepare himself for this. "I Keeping the image intact of a king is a tough job. The directors and writers have helped me a lot. They explain and guide me through every sequence. I understand the emotions better from my writers because one cannot get that by reading a book. Viewers should feel that essence, which is more important", says the youngster. About learning to ride a horse he says, "I have never done horse riding before. Yes, I have sat on a horse once or twice but never knew how to ride. It just took me two days to learn. There was a coach appointed who taught me this and then I learnt it myself by practice". How about usage of weapons? "There are fight masters who help me with that. I learn and by practice, it becomes perfect". Adds Anas, "Rajat has created an image among the viewers and he has won many hearts. I need to maintain the same image for which I am trying my best".

And his message to his fans - "Please keep watching the show. There is so much of hard work that we put to make the series. We are trying to keep forward the history to the viewers so they can be aware of the Indian history. It is different from the usual Saas-Bahu soaps. Also do not compare the young Prithvi to the Yuva Prithvi Raj Chauhan. Both are different roles, and I hope all my fans will keep watching the show without fail".</FONT>

<H5> Star Parivaar has its macho men Hussein, Shabbir and Shaleen Bhanot performing for The Awards.. But Anas Rashid, the hunk who plays Prithviraj Chauhan, has backed out.Read to know why...</H5>

As the Star Parivaar Awards looms closer, the family has a special surprise planned for its viewers. The Parivaar's macho men, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Anas Rashid, Shaleen Bhanot and Hussein Kuwajerwala will be seen on stage geared up to give a power packed performance on some of Bollywood's raciest numbers.

However, when Telly Buzz contacted Anas Rashid, the actor had a different story to share on the same. Anas says, "No I am not performing for STAR Parivaar Awards." When asked the reason Anas replied, "There are numerous reasons for that. Firstly, they asked me to perform in my character, as Prithviraj, with a sword in hand, but I had to dance to Hrithik's number 'Azeem-O-Shan Shahenshah' from the film Jodhaa Akbar. I do not want to play with my character and exploit the sentiments of the viewers who see me playing their idol, Prithviraj. If I had to dance in casual attire and as Anas Rashid, then I would have no problem performing. But, I found it very humiliating for the character I play if I went ahead with what was proposed to me".

Adding further Anas says, "Another reason why I refused to do the special performance was because of my busy schedule. We are shooting a big fight sequence between Prithviraj and Ghori. It will be impossible for me to go to Mumbai taking a break from work and rehearse for the performance. So considering all these factors, I decided not to perform. However, I will surely go and attend the STAR Parivaar Awards function."

Well, hats off to Anas Rashid as he is one actor who has surely managed to get into the skin of the character he plays!!

I did my Master's in Psychology but I never wanted to act. I used to laugh at fellow students who participated in the dramatics," says Anas who studied in Chandigarh.

Anas who started off his career with music videos says his friends forced him to participate in a contest and then he came into acting. "People have always appreciated my screen presence. My friends went and filled my form for the contest which I won, and then I did three music videos."

He then came to Mumbai and waited for three months. "I started off with Kahiin To Hoga . I left Balaji after Kahiin... , and waited because I wanted something bigger and better, and then Prithviraj offer came. I guess my patience paid off in the end." Ask him is he playing an epic hero on the small screen? "We have always read about Prithviraj Chauhan in school text-books, but to play a character so powerful in In-dian history is a real challenge and I am enjoying it." he says.

It was said that Angad Bedi was supposed to play the role of Prithviraj Chauhan before, but later Anas stepped into the role. "It's true ' Angad was supposed to do it, but after popularity of Rajat Tokas as young Prithviraj, the director needed someone who looked like him. And I fitted the bill."

Anas is crazy about films and with a glint of hope in his eyes he says, "My destination is movies." Given a chance he would love to work with directors like Madhur Bhandarkar, Nagesh Kukunoor and Mahesh Bhatt who are open to the idea of working with newcomers.

Ask him does he believe in love and destiny and he says, "No, I don't believe in love at first sight, every relation needs time and so will mine." he signs off. </FONT></DIV>

</FONT><FONT size=4><FONT color=#000000>Anas Rashid, currently playing the character of Prithviraj in Star Plus' Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan shares his views with Telly Buzz's Binita.R, about his stint as the warrior Prithviraj, his experience so far, and above all the stunts used in the recent Ashutosh Gowarikar film, Jodhaa Akbar..

How did you get the offer for Prithviraj Chauhan?
I got a break in television through Balaji two and half years back in Kahin Toh Hoga as Karthik Ahluwalia for a year. The role was very popular at that time. Later I was looking out for a good role and was at home for months and months. I personally feel that it was very difficult to defeat the image of Karthik Ahluwalia. My friends informed me that there were auditions happening for Prithviraj Chauhan show and I went ahead. Before I got this much coveted role, I never used to watch Prithviraj Chauhan as I was always out of home on weekends partying. Later I came to know that the show is doing well and the TRP's are good, and I was interested to play this character.

How far have you read on the life and history of Prithviraj Chauhan?
Ya, I knew he was a warrior but what I studied in my school days was the kind of person and a warrior he was and that too only around 1- 2 pages. I actually went to internet and saw who was Prithviraj and Ghori and this was interesting for me. I was later asked to come to Baroda for the shoot and there I got my formal training in horse riding, sword fighting etc. Now, I feel I am the real history for children and the fact that kids are not restricted to the pages of the history book now, makes me feel happy.

What attracted you to take up this role?
First thing was he was a warrior and second thing that provoked me was the love story between Prithviraj and Sanyogita. It is a very sacred relationship that they share. When my writer explained the nuances of the love story, I was touched as it was not like the other usual where they say you have taken my kids or my wife. I got attached towards this story a lot after reading just the script.

How has the experience been on the sets so far?
It's been very tough. I never see myself as an artist, but I see myself as Prithviraj Chauhan when I am sitting alone and to myself. Shooting in the dense forests, the fierce battleground scenes are very tough and stressful. But I just love to be in my character all the time, and just do not bother about hunger or thirst. For me, work always gets high priority.

Have you received a lot of offers after you took on the role of Prithvi? How has the recognition been like?
Ya, a lot of production houses are eager to take me, but then they know that I am currently working on Prithviraj Chauhan. After doing so much I felt that it's been a great experience and I have got many compliments, especially from the youth like they feel that I have actually done a good job getting into the skin of the character. This role demands heroism and I guess I am doing my job well. It's a complete package with action and romance. No other serial can defeat it as in other serials, we hardly see action sequences, but this serial has everything. After doing this role, when I see the action scenes in Jodhaa Akbar, where the protagonist is shown moving the sword, fighting with elephants, I really do not feel anything great about the stunts shown there.

Have you been inspired by Jodhaa Akbar?
Well, to tell you the fact, nothing really inspired me from Jodhaa Akbar. I have seen much better epical movies than that before. The critic said that it's a mixture of Sagar Arts and Ekta Kapoor. Frankly speaking, I did not feel that I learnt anything .I can say that the direction was of superb quality, wherein Hritihk is shown moving his sword at a brisk pace. Even I have enacted such a scene. There is one scene where </FONT></FONT><FONT size=4><FONT color=#000000>Aishwarya <NOBR id=itxt_nobr_11_0>Rai</a></a></NOBR></FONT></FONT></A><FONT color=#000000 size=4> is admiring Hrithik's man power as he handles the sword. Let me tell you, I have done almost 10 similar scenes where Sanyojita stealthily watches me.

Are you planning to take up any other project now?
No, I am fully into playing Prithvi, so I cannot even consider about anything else now. </FONT>

<FONT color=#000000><FONT size=3>Prithvi Raj : Anas Rashid
Born in a conservative Muslim family, Anas Rashid is all set to play the last Hindu ruler of Delhi, Prithviraj Chauhan. The handsome young man from Maler Kotla, Punjab, knows that he has some very big shoes to fill, after Rajat Tokas's very successful tenure as the young Prithvi. We speak with him about his family, his aspirations, and his dreams, amongst other things.

Q. What is your take on playing the lead in the most successful historical on television?
A. I did not expect something like this so early in life. Whenever I watched historical movies like 'Braveheart', and 'Troy', I would be very inspired, but I never thought that I would be acting as Prithviraj Chauhan. It all happened too soon, after the auditions.

I am very proud now, and happy, but I also feel responsible. Rajat Tokas did a very good job, and I have to maintain the TRPs and the fan following that he brought in ' all the kids, older citizens, and, of course, the girls, who followed this serial dedicatedly because of Rajat.

Q. First it was 'Kahiin Toh Hoga', and now this. Your colleagues must be envious of the breaks you get.
A. In 'Kahiin Toh Hoga', my co-stars and colleagues were already well-established in the industry. Colleagues who were a part of my life during my struggling days may be a little insecure, but I don't think anyone is envious. If they work hard, they will achieve their goal.

Q. What do you think of the fact that you are being touted as a newcomer, despite your stint with Balaji? Does that mean that your role in 'Kahiin Toh Hoga' went unnoticed?
A. I am glad of that, since, in television, an actor is known by the last role he played, and it becomes almost a permanent identity. I think people should be able to accept an actor in different roles. It is the performance that should be noticed and appreciated, so that one is known as an actor, and has an individual identity.

I am glad that people have forgotten Karthik Ahluwalia, and now call me Prithviraj. I am also thrilled that they know me more as Anas Rashid, from Punjab.

Q. According to your female fans, you are looking very hot. Did you work on your body for this show?
A. I was healthier than this. Since I had to play to role of a king in his late teens, I had to lose a lot of weight. Also, I had to match my physique with Rajat's, so that there was not too much of a jerk in continuity.

Q. Your predecessor, Rajat Tokas, was extremely popular, which was why Prithviraj did not grow up in the serial for a very long time. Were you apprehensive about comparisons?
A. I am sure that the audience will compare the two of us, but I have to work harder to avoid criticism. Since Rajat was a child artiste, many of his flaws may have been overlooked. As the senior Prithvi, there will be no leniency for me.

I had to be very sincere, and I still am. There was a lot to learn in the past few weeks ' body language, horse riding, sword fighting, etc, and, of course, the accent in pure Hindi. It has been tough, preparing for this role.

Q. Have you met Rajat?
A. Yes, we did three press conferences together. I also observed him on shoot for 2-3 days, so that I can imbibe his mannerisms and improvise them as the senior Prithvi.

Q. You are a post graduate in Psychology. Does your knowledge help in your acting?
A. I believe that when you are educated, and have done your Masters, then 80 per cent of the battle is won, whatever the job. And an understanding of Psychology is the icing on the cake. Your powers of observance and imbibing characteristics are enhanced.

You know the mental state of the character, his expressions, and his mannerisms, how he will behave in certain situations, etc. By enacting, I am presenting human behavior.

Q. You apparently enjoy singing.
A. I believe I am a good singer, not that I have won awards, though. If I was not an actor, I would have been a singer. I participated in competitions in school and college. I am told I have leadership qualities. I was also into wrestling, when I was in Punjab, as well as body building, and other sports.

Strangely, I was never a part of any dramatic society, nor did I want to be an actor, till I won the Mr Punjab title in 2004. Offers for music videos fell into my lap after that, and one thing led to another, and here I am.

Q. What about your family? Were they supportive of your decision?
A. My immediate family ' my parents, my sister and her husband, and my younger brother ' were happy for me. However, as we live in a joint family, other relatives condemned the decision. In fact, the television set entered our house only six years ago, and that I would be on the screen so soon was a huge shock.

Q. Do you have Bollywood aspirations?
A. I would want to act in Bollywood films, but it will not be my final destination. I also want to go to Hollywood. I would want to make a mark in my country first, of course. I don't think any television offer will be a notch above this one, and I would not want to disappoint my fans. I also want to write scripts, but right now, I am concentrating on this role.

Q. You know some 5-6 languages. How come?
A. I know Punjabi because I was born and brought up there. Hindi and English come naturally to an Indian, from school days. I studied in an Urdu medium school, and my grandfather was the Principal. I know Urdu, as well as Arabic, in which I can read and write.

One of my uncles is the Head of Department for Persian, so I know Persian, too. A few Nepalese people worked in our factory, and I learned that language also. I try to learn as many languages as I can, and would want to learn at least all the Indian languages.

Q. Previously, there was a lot of hype about Angad Bedi playing the senior Prithviraj Chauhan. What happened?
A. Yes, Angad was the first choice, but then he went abroad for some time. In the meantime, Rajat became increasingly popular, so the adult Prithvi's introduction kept getting postponed.

Also, there needed to be some kind of continuity in physical appearance, given Rajat's popularity. Angad would not have suited the role then. And that is how I got this role. - Sonu Ananad</FONT>
