Women are truly unique, diverse and complex. Woman come in various packages - married, unmarried, old, young, timid, bold, arrogant and meek. But whatever they are... they truly make this place a better place to live in!

The mind of a woman has always boggled many men across generations. Woman - married or unmarried - have their share of problems... be it professional or personal. Their lives are entangled in their many relationships as a mother, wife, friend, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law and much more. Even if they aren't married, they have a dose of problems that could range from family to society. Doesn't this sound like a life of anyone you know?

Vijay TV presents you this unique attempt in fiction front; delving into the lives of five women in an urban backdrop. Roja Kootam is the story of five women who are none like the other and their complicated lives. Janani, Radhika, Maanasa, Charulatha and Leena are the best of friends who live in the same apartment. These five well-educated, intelligent, independent and beautiful women have their tryst with destiny in this cleverly woven plot.

Vijay TV, for the first time brings to life a story in an apartment on small screen. These five women are best of friends in the apartment, who support each other during thick and thin. With many struggles and sacrifices faced by these protagonists, Roja Kootam serial launching from February 23, 2009, Monday - Thursday, 7pm on Vijay TV will showcase how these characters live up to life's challenges. Roja Kootam is a story of women, just like you; where you can identify yourself!

About the characters:

Charulatha - a divorcee
Charu, a divorcee and a mother of a six-year-old, hates men completely. A determined and a bold individual, has sought divorce after a bitter experience with her husband. She lives in the apartment with her only son Naresh; for whom she would leave no stone unturned. Later comes the friendship of Shiva; which could change her life forever. Caught in the turmoil of friendship and motherhood, how will Charu handle this situation?

Radhika - HR Manager
Radhika, a highly successful professional, balances her career and home with a complete ease! Her husband Karthik who works as a clerk in a private firm, earns much less than his wife. Understanding his wife's busy schedule, Karthik contributes largely in taking care of the family and two daughters. A loving couple, but problems begin to brew when Radhika's demanding work hours cause untoward incidents. Neepa, a popular television artiste plays the role of Radhika.

Maanasa - Model
As Tamil Nadu's leading model, Maanasa values her independence and self-respect. A person who is in complete control of her life and lives life on her own terms. This bold damsel is happy living her single life; unhinged from marital responsibility. Maanasa is a source of strength to her friends and can handle any crisis and problem with confidence. In the life of this bold beauty enters a man who might change everything that she believes in. Pooja, a popular television artiste plays the role of Maanasa.

Janani - Housewife
Life has changed so much after marriage for her as she is forced to become a stereotyped housewife. Her whole world revolves around her husband, father-in-law and family. A multifaceted personality in college, Janani's talent knew no bounds. A born rock-star and a talented dancer Janani now devotes her time completely to her husband and family. Her talents are yet to be identified or recognised by her husband and in-laws. Marriage has changed Janani's life completely - is it for the better or worse? The role is played by Sandra an upcoming TV artiste.

Leena - Ms.Perfect
Known as a perfectionist, Leena and her husband Sanjay are considered to be the "ideal couple" amongst her friends. Love blossomed between the two through internet chat and both ended up tying the sacred knot. Always loving and a cute pair, Leena has a hidden past that even her husband Sanjay is not aware of. The role is played by Akila, a TV artiste.

Episode 1

charu, Radhi, Maanasa, Leena and Janani are introduced along with Shanthi (nick named by the gang as "peru moochu"!) and Anitha.

Anitha is faced with some huge problem and as a result she commits sucide. Shanthi is too curious to know about the happenings around the apartment, hence goes to find out about Anitha. But she finds Anitha hanging, she informs others about Anitha.

Police arrive. A man is standing outside the house looking rather suspicious. Charu and friends are worried; they all share their good experiences with anitha. Questions arise between the friends about the suicide and problems with her husband are also suggested as a reason behind the death of Anitha.

Episode 2

Life must go on!

Maanasa photo shoot.

Ragu is getting ready to work, Dad complains about some account problem. Janani hands the grocery list, but Ragu asks her to hand it to mama. Mama asks her why she didn't add the dates syrup to the list and asks Ragu to hand the money to Janani for the grocery. She asks mama whether she can leave, he asks Janani to leave after Raghu. Once Ragu is gone, she asks mama again, and he tells not to ask him about everything and to go.

Janani sees Anitha's T-shirt hanging in her balcony. Janani imagines Anitha there wearing the t-shirt. The guy who was outside the house walks in, and Janani leaves.
Leena's shopping. Two men are commenting about her and Sanjay joins in and jollufies his wife. Janani is also there doing shopping, she asks them to romance elsewhere. Janani finds out that her bill is 3039 rupees, but she was only given 3000. Janani gives her some old note and coins. Cashier gives her one coin back as she has paid 3040. She leaves. Outside, Janani meets her old friend, Sethu says she was influenzed by her and asks her whether she's doing own business? Janani agrees. Sethu questions her about turnover... Flashback... Mama asks Ragu to hand her money, handing old money and coins. She refuses to tell, Sethu praises her for not telling. She then interviews Janani for Woman's day.

Charulatha's commenting about some sarees to her coustomer. He tells her that he doesn't know whether the saree look beautiful or not, but she does. Charu shouts and tells him never to come back. Co-worker tells him that she hates gents.

Maanasa photo shoot. She tells makeup dresser to tell the manager that she needs apple jusice, but he tells her to take some other drink. Maanasa tells him her difficulties to maintain her weight and she needs to control what see eats. Further adds that she doesn't want to show off and can pay for her juice. Manager tells her he'll buy the juice for her.
Comment - they are beautiful when they're angry, but anger could lead to trouble.

Newspaper titled "kudumba sirayil penngal kaithigala?" is carried to the apartment.

Short update - Episode 3-12!

Mama complains about Janani to Ragu after hearing about the article from "peru moochu" Shanthi. Janani faints.

Leena meets her next door neighbour, Rama, from Mumbai. Rama questions her about her drug addict husband, but Leena leaves without giving her a reply.

Janani tells her difficulties to her friends and suggests getting a divorce like charu as the best way forward. Charu adds her difficulties as a divorcee and the plate turned towards Maanasa and Leena. Maanasa mentions her difficulties, but Leena remains silent.

Maanasa's learning dance for her add, and she gets on well with the dance master.

Shiva (drunkard) moves next door to Charu and fight arises between them due to some misunderstanding. Charu complains about him to her friends.

Janani takes Leena to a hairdresser and she's Rama (her old neighbour). Janani leaves and Rama questions her about her husband and that Janani was saying today was her first wedding anniversary, but when she met her in Mumbai she was married for two years. Now she should be married for five years, not one! This discussion is stopped by Janani's entry.

Sanjay hands Leena some gifts, but she's feeling unwell so they decide to leave.

Radhika complains about not having enough time to spend with her family. When she wasn't employed, they had other problems, but they had time to spend.

Problem with dance master's bike, hence Maanasa decides to give him a ride. Later Maanasa reveals that they both live in the same apartment. He leaves and we later find out that his wife is "peru moochu" Shanthi and she doesn't like her husband hanging around with Maanasa!

Rama's bill is forwarded to Leena. Rama phones her and asks her to pay as she had no customer and she'll pay back in the evening. Later she arrives but Leena is busy leaving with her husband, so she asks her to leave.

Vichu is a friend (co-worker) of Ragu and comes home to take some file and walks into their bedroom to get the file, sits on the bed and looks for the file. Mama arrive, they have some talk. Vichu complains to mama about Janani that she didn't give him tea. She leaves to kitchen.

Janani complains to her husband and tells him not to send Vichu home. He asks her why, and tells her that he sat on the bed because there is no other way to open the door. She walks outside, and starts watching some serial called "neethi" where a police woman is beating a man. Janani thinks of herself aa the police woman and the man as Vichu.

Charu and friends try to get Shiva out of the apartment, but it backfires.

Episode 13

Maanasa signs a contract without reading the terms.

Rama calls Leena and asks her to allow her cousin to stay with her, as she can't accomodate her in her room. Leena doesn't give in, Rama uses her weapon (past) to achieve her aim.

Maanasa asks Shanthi's husband to choreograph her new ad. She is called by her manager, she leaves.

PROMO - Maanasa faces trouble, Leena is again blackmailed by Rama. Anitha's sucide mystery is about to be solved.

This serial is good.. But for the acting fo the girls...

They act more than for what they are paid... its not natural...

ANyway,, can someone continue the updates.. i can't catch up regularly..

S'day it was good..

manasa is always thinking abt sidharth.. she misses his cal and then manasa is calls sidharth back and his wife gets tensed. she deletes her no. from his mobile.. Sidharth talks to manasa and she tells she wants to tell something in person..

Sidharth's wife fights with him.. he says it just friendship.. wife beats her children for this... this is too bad... parents should not tlak everything in front of their children..

Janani and other girl goes to hospital.. janani behvaes like a child and expresses her wish to see ICU.. they both wait when another girl arrives there... on seeing her, the girl with janani is disturbed and she moves from there.. then janani asks to the newle arrived girl about someone and she says she doesn't know her.. just only once...
