On Bollywood : Talk about Bollywood to Kareena, and the otherwise jovial actress gets pretty serious. This vegetarian, who loves meaty
roles, feels that actresses have to take a stand where roles are concerned.
"They have to say a firm 'No' to inconsequential parts. Wearing short skirts, boots and dancing in three songs will only get you similar offers. Tomorrow there will be someone younger than you who'll take your place and people won't miss you." Point noted Kareena.
On BT Backbeat : The spicy gossip that people love reading doesn't go down too well with most actors, but Kareena knows how to take it in her stride. "It's fun to read some chatpata news. There has to be little masala? I love reading it," she admits. Looks like the actress has now learned to deal with the good, the bad
'WHY ARE WE APING THE WEST?'
ON WHY SHE LOVES THE SAREE THE MOST: She is undoubtedly a style icon with an ever increasing fan base, both young and old. Whatever actress Kareena Kapoor wears soon becomes a rage. Take the example of the harem pants which shot to the top of the most-have style items after Kareena sported them in the song Mauja hi Mauja. So high was their popularity that they got renamed as the Mauja hi Mauja pants.
But the lass, who is always well turned out in both western and Indian ensembles is one of the biggest fans and ambassadors of the Indian six-yard wonder, the saree. "The saree is India's answer to the gown," says the actress who is mostly spotted wearing sarees at formal occasions.
But the sexy actress has a grouse. "I don't understand why we go overboard in aping the west when our very own saree is a much better showcase of the Indian woman's beauty and grace," she emphatically says.
According to her, it is the responsibility of every young Indian woman to uphold and promote our Indian heritage. "And one of the most beautiful ways of doing that is by sporting Indian attire, especially the saree," she says giving the garment two thumbs up.
And luckily for her, beau Saif Ali Khan is just as big a fan of the saree as Bebo herself. "Saif is always ready with a compliment when I wear a saree. According to him, it really makes the woman look alluring and very sexy. In fact, he often says 'We don't want to see women's legs, we want to imagine them. And that can only happen with the saree.' So, that's another reason why I love wearing the garment," she said with a smile. The actress feels that it looks rather odd when Bollywood actresses choose a gown over the saree at a formal function, especially since gowns don't suit every body type. On a lighter note, she adds, "Not only does it look classy, sexy and very chic, with a saree women can always leave much to the imagination of the men." And there's good news for all you die-hard Bebo fans. The fashionista is all set to launch her own clothing line. "I am going to launch my very own individual, stand-alone fashion line and by God's grace it should happen by next year," she reveals.

Theirs is one of the most rocking jodisin Bollywood and lovebirds Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan wear their heart on their sleeves as far as their relationship is concerned. But keeping in mind erratic shooting schedules, it's not always smooth sailing. Both of them have to work just as hard at nurturing their "always in the glare of the public" relationship. On Women's Day, BTasked Kareena what is it that Saif gives to their relationship that she loves the most. "The fact that he gives me the space to do my things and always encourages and supports me in what I want to do," she says emphatically. This unconditional backing, she says, is one of the most important factors of their relationship. According to her, since Saif has been raised by his mother who managed to strike the right balance between keeping her home happy and making a success of her career, he knows that Kareena too needs to put in time and energy into her career. "Saif also understands that a woman will not be able to give her 100 per cent to her job if she doesn't have an adequate support system back home. And he gives me the kind of support I need," she said.

What do two of the big screen's most coveted stars watch on the small screen? No, it's not filmi gossip or fashion that keeps Kareena hooked to the tele-set, but National Geographic! Yes, Bebo says she devotes almost an hour every night to the channel along with Saif. "He's the one who got me hooked on to it!" she revealed. "It's a great de-stresser after a long day!"
| 'I WOULD LOVE TO GO ON A WILDLIFE SAFARI' BY BEING A VEGETARIAN, Kareena Kapoor supports the cause of preserving the ecosystem. And only recently, this actress confesses to have become hooked on to wildlife programmes on television, thanks to her beau Saif Ali Khan. "Nature, the greenery, and also the animals truly fascinate me. It's through the eyes of the animal that one can identify the emotion inside it. It could be fear, greed, happiness and curiosity. That stark look in the eyes is so capturing." She goes on to disclose her future plan, "I would love to go on a wildlife safari and soon I shall." TOI |
EVEN I HAVE BAD HAIR DAYS!' Bebo talks to Zeenia F Baria about her beautiful tresses and her glowing skin That Kareena has a svelte figure is old news. But did you know that the gorgeous actor is also blessed with great skin? "Luckily both my parents have great skin. I don't even have a fixed skin care regime that I follow. Since I have dry skin, I've tried everything to make it look better but nothing has really helped," she said with a pout. Advising her on a skin care regime that will benefit her, Dr Bindu Sthalekar, eminent dermatologist told her to use a soap-less cleanser that isn't harsh on the skin and doesn't strip it off it's natural moisture and follow this up with a moisturiser so that her skin doesn't get too dry. And since actors are also more prone to erratic schedules and shooting in the sun, wind or deserts, Dr Bindu stressed on the use of a sunscreen. What surprised Kareena was the fact that over exposure to sunlight was one of the main causes of premature ageing. "I'm definitely going to start using sunscreen more often," she said admitting that she and beau Saif love spending time outdoors. When Kareena isn't facing the arc lights, she prefers to go the natural way. "I don't use a lot of makeup usually. Just my kajal, lip gloss and some concealer under my eyes is good enough for me," she said. Since the actress is born with good genes, as Dr Bindu said, she should put in a little extra effort to preserve her great skin. "Even if you're indoors slather on sunscreen daily. Sun damage is among the leading culprits for dull and lifeless skin. Drink a lot of water to hydrate your skin and add a lot of fruits and green vegetables to your diet," she advised Kareena. "I'd love to go to the spa more often. But I rarely get a chance to go and indulge in any of their relaxing services," she said with a sigh. "My hair faces the most brunt of me being an actress. It's constantly getting pulled, blow dried, straightened and curled for different shoots and since I detest oiling my hair, there are times when I have terrible hair days. But I live through them — I'm only human!" she said with a laugh. The secret to Kareena's glowing skin, revealed Dr Bindu was her chilled out attitude. "She thinks right and eats right. And the power yoga that she does at least five times a week is a great outlet for stress. She takes things in her stride — that's where she scores." TOI MY SUNDAY Kareena Kapoor "Sundays are chilled out. I just lounge around the house in my comfortable pyjamas or patialas the entire day, doing absolutely nothing!" |
