You may not know that our Oscars hero AR Rahman just escaped from the cruel hands of death before receiving the world's most prestigious award. This isn't fiction. This is a reality that Rahman has himself revealed. Narrating his experience, he says, "I really don't know what happened. Two days before the Oscars, we were rehearsing at one of the theatres for the Oscars, the Jay Leno Show and the Oprah Winfrey Show; when a massive chandelier, covering a portion of the ceiling crashed on the spot a split second after I moved away." Had he not moved away, he would have become history though after creating history, he adds.
Had he not come out unscathed, it would have been one of the worst tragedies of our times. The incident had shaken the great composer. And, he considers it a warning against taking any good thing in one's life too seriously. In the same breath, the Oscars winner says that he explained the meaning of his song 'Jai Ho' to Oprah Winfrey that it meant, 'may victory be yours'! "To his great surprise, she wished the same back for me and I could see she meant it ", he adds. Rahman says that only the best wishes the world over saved his life that day.
