:: Dehleez - Characters::

Indu: The main protagonist of our story, Arjun's wife Indu is a simple housewife who belongs to a small town background. She is charming, simple, large hearted above all contented with her lot in life. Until circumstances conspire to change her path of life and she decides to go whenever her fate intended her to go. Though fairly educated, Indu has never had personal dreams and ambitions beyond a commitment to do the very best for her husband and her husband's family. And that commitment emboldens her to step out of the house for their sake. Nervous, trusting and low on confidence in dealing with the outside world, Indu is a silent sufferer who maintains a cheerful and brave exterior, always sharing her happiness but seldom her woes. She has many difficulties at work due to her soft nature and to increase her woes she has to do the precarious juggling and balancing act to keep her ever demanding joint family happy. As the story progresses, though Indu becomes stronger and more confident in dealing with her ever increasing problems, her basic values, gentle temperament and aspirations always remain the same.

Arjun (Played by Bhuvesh Mam): He is happy-go-lucky and very generous to his entire family. He is a loving husband of Indu. But Arjun lacks wisdom and maturity. He is a poor judge of human character and is also weak in dealing with any crises in human relationships. He is not very trusting and as the story progresses he becomes more and more pessimistic about even his closest family members.
Arjun, who tragically loses his factory to a fire, finds it very difficult to find a job and then stick to it. The failures and frustrations make him a bitter man and times of turbulence bring out the worst in him.

Ramesh Shrivastav (Played by Rakesh Pandey): He is a traditional thinking patriarch. He was a government employee until his retirement one year back. He saved and invested his money wisely and that helped him to buy the present bungalow. He is proud of providing a home to his sons in these expensive times in Mumbai city. He also helped his sons to set up their own business with the money he got from his provident fund. And now he feels he has done more than fulfilled his duty as a father. Now he expects to be looked after by his children and also demands the same respect that he commanded when his children were younger. He strongly feels that men are bread winners and women are home makers. He still lives in the old era when very few women stepped out of the house to work for their living. It makes him very unhappy when his daughter-in-law Indu takes up a job.

Shobha (Played by Savita Prabhune): She has striven all through her life to be a traditional wife and mother, just the way her husband Ramesh Saxena wanted her to be. She is the all sacrificing and overworked matriarch. Now she too looks forward to her bahus doing sewa enough to ease her old age. But she is now absent minded and forgetful which are the early signs of Alzheimer disease. She is loving and fair, currently spaced out and a great believer in religious rites and prayer to alleviate sufferings.

Akash (Played by Sunil Barve): The eldest son of the family Akash is not very intelligent but has managed to do well for himself. He does trading in garment business and is quite good in his dealings. But he is a hen pecked husband and his wife dominates him. He is not a bad person by nature but he is a weak person who gets carried away when his wife misleads him. Though he thinks he is the cleverer of the two brothers, his younger brother Pravin siphons off even from their joint business.

Rukmani (Played by Preeti Sahay): She controls her husband Akash in whatever he plans and does. She is very dominating and greedy for money. Apparently she pretends that she is very fond of the family members but inwardly she prays for the day when her husband would be the sole owner of the bungalow. She is also jealous of Damini, wife of Akash's younger brother Pravin because she belongs to a rich family and can afford to buy the luxuries of life. But she has to pretend that all is well with her as their husbands are in business together. She has a dangerous streak to her outwardly harmless appearance. She often robs and flicks money from Damini's cupboard. She has a seven years old son Jumbo who is very attached to Indu. And Rukmani doesn't like it one bit.

Pravin (Played by Nishant Shokeen): He is the second of the three brothers of this household. He is much smarter and cunning than his elder brother Akash. He often misrepresents the gains in business and over plays expenses to fill his private coffers. He likes to spend a lot of money on his wife's make-up and jewelry. And unlike Akash he has more avenues to spend money. In other words he knows how to enjoy life. He has secretly invested in properties and gets returns from it. But no one in the house is aware of it.

Vishaka (Played by Bhavna Roy): She is the colorful wife of Pravin who is fond of good things in life. Her parents are quite well to do and she is the only daughter. She regularly receives money and gifts from them but doesn't share it with anyone in the house. She is proud of the fact that she is fair and quite good looking. Damini loves to dress up and hates to do household work.
She has been married since last five years and now feels that he husband is very boring and life has become very monotonous. She is fond of watching movies and the filmy heroes are her ideals. In her quest for an adventurous life, she gets romantically involved with Raghuveer, who is the husband of Saxena's daughter Nalini.

Nalini (Played by Geeta Tyagi) is the typical housewife. She has been taught to be a devoted wife but is frustrated at the fact that her husband Raghuveer is not really as loyal to her as he pretends. And Nalini has grown more and more suspicious over the years. She hasn't really done a good job of bringing up her kids, who are brats and out of her control. She often throws tantrums in her house knowing that she'll find at least temporary shelter in her parent's. She is indulged by her maika, to the extent that she freely picks up whatever she feels like from there on her visits and no one can protest.

Raghuveer (Played by Nimay Bali): Nalini's husband Raghuveer is a man of double standards. He pretends to be a devoted husband but has roving eyes. He tries to flirt with every woman and is specially drawn to the gentle charm of Indu. But she stays far away from him, and cannot really humor him like Damini. Raghuveer is a true mischief maker for this family and adds to a lot of complications in the relationships between family members.

Mamaji (Played by Susheel Parashar): He is a distant cousin of Shubh Laxmi. Mamaji is always broke, and always sponging of all the people with his tall stories and excuses. Mamaji is lazy who hasn't worked all his life but he is not a bad soul. At the most unexpected moments he stands up for this family. His mind does not work for a profession but on schemes to earn a few rupees. He has a soft corner for Indu and understands the trauma through which she passes. He stands by her when the entire family is against Indu. He is married and lives in a small house with her. He has a nagging wife but Mamaji never complains. He is contended with his life. He always smiles and makes others laugh with him.

Reema: She is the youngest daughter, ever helpful and concerned for each member of her family. Reema has a special soft corner for Indu and Arjun, and they are the only couple who indulge her as the youngest of the siblings. Reema suffers from an inferiority complex due to her weight. She yearns for romantic love like other girls of her age. But she is almost sure that it will not happen to her. To top it all Reema is always short of funds and cannot in any ways dress or spend money on herself like her other college peers. When she realizes that a boy really loves her, she is prepared to give up anything and take any risks for it.

Shantanu (Played by Harsh Chayya): He is the very understanding boss of Indu. He is a widower, drawn to the charm and simplicity of Indu, who was temperamentally similar to his wife. He is rich, refined and a man of good taste who brings breath of fresh air in Indu's life. But he never oversteps his limits, and never takes advantage of his position. He has a seven year old daughter from his late wife and the daughter gets very attached to Indu when Indu starts teaching her.
