FICCI FRAMES and IIFA honour ten Bollywood stars
Story By: Businessofcinema.com Team updated on: 17/02/09

MUMBAI: The annual Indian media and entertainment convention FICCI FRAMES partnered with IIFA to honour 10 Bollywood stars who are the Most Powerful Entertainers of the decade.

This is the tenth year of the FRAMES convention and incidentally also the tenth year for the IIFA Awards. On this occasion, the two bodies honoured 10 Bollywood actors for their contribution to Indian cinema.

These were Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherji.

However, out of the 10 actors only five were able to attend the felicitation namely Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty and Priyanka Chopra. While SRK could not make it due to his recent shoulder operation, some of the other actors were unable to attend due to various reasons.

In receiving the award, Bachchan, who is also the brand ambassador of IIFA, said, "I am very honoured to receive this recognition. I have been working in this industry for the last 40 years and appreciate this felicitation."

It also saw the coming together of two legends - Hollywood actor Danny Glover and Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Glover was also felicitated with the FICCI-USIBC Award. Glover also gave the memento to Bachchan. Glover is one of the top character actors working in Hollywood. He made his debut in the 1979 Clint Eastwood potboiler Escape from Alcatraz (1979) and since then worked in multiple movies including Dreamgirls (2006).

The entertainment evening was kick started with a musical performance by Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and his son Rahul Sharma.

I agree with teh list, except I feel that Shilpa should've been replaced with Aishwarya. Shilpa doesnt even fit in with the rest of hte names while Aish has definitely made her mark. Her absence in the list is quite noticable actually.

The men's list makes perfect sense, but Ash definitely deserved a spot in the actresses. I dont know where they got Shilpa from. ANd dont say Big Brother, coz that's truly pathetic.

What about Kajol, Madhuri or Juhi? I think they should have been recognized. Shilpa doesn't deserve to be there

Ok let me kill a couple of arguments with one post.
To whoever said that Shilpa deserves to be there coz she's recognized internationally. This award is meant for the film fraternity, ACTORS who have entertained the masses for the last decade. I'm guessing by last decade they mean post 2000, the new millenium.
What has Shilpa done that puts her on par with names such as Amitabh Bachan, Srk Khan, Rani Mukherjee? The desi viewers never even watched Big Brother. And Big Brother isnt even an Indian show! So no, Shilpa shouldnt have been there. ANd seems like there is glitch with this article. Apparently Aish WAS rewarded, so 11 bollywood stars were rewarded, not 10.
Second I was also thinking of Madhuri, Kajol, etc. But then I realized, they specified that its for the top 11 bollywood stars in the last decade, and I believe that's post 2000. Kajol, Madz, Juhi ruled mostly in the 90s. They havent maintained that after 2000.
So yeah, just my thoughts.
