Agree with MrsAckles - people need to respect others opinions.
Everybody has a right to voice their opinion even if it is totally opposite to what the majority say.

No direct quote from Preity so don't believe it.
But I don't understand why people think like that? There are movies in which they show small village parts of India like Omkara, if that movie had become international, not everyone is going to think all of India are like that.
People are not that stupid, give them a break.

Exactly!

And even if she really did say that, she's speaking of the possible interpretation. A lot of people who don't know much about India will assume that this is the REAL India. SM was a good movie but it shouldn't be used as a documentary to learn something about India because at the end of the day, it is only a movie.

And why do people dwell on that one line and ignore the rest of the article? She wants something good for the people living in Mumbai, but that's completely ignored.

First it was the COW now it will be the slum....LOL 😆

Didn't she say something similar to the fact about being shocked about the lawlessness in the city after Shantaram and how things needed to change? Big deal, there is no direct quote. And if anything, this film has a happy ending and there is a bit of fantasy in the whole underdog conquering his obstacles in this film so if anything this film should be is looked at as a positive. I personally don't know anyone or at least no one I know was stupid enough personally to think all of India is slums. That would be a stupid conclusion to make just based on a film or vice versa to assume what America is like from watching films. Spoken from someone, who lives in the Bible belt.

Its fantastic that she is dealin with all this issues. Its very true that Mumbai has many illegal immigrants and that issue should definitely be tackled.

I sooo agree wid Preity. Bcoz My friend (american) who watched Water movie & she came to me & asked me whether if all the girls in India get marry at very young age like watever they shown in the movie. I have not watched that movie. But It was soo hard for me to explain dat it' does not happen watever they showed. I hope now she does not come & ask me whether all the ppl live in the slums. Honestly, I have never seen slum in my life in India. 😕

I'm sick and tired of reading SM related articles. I doubt Preity even said anything. Media needs to get life, or find another story. Seriously I feel like spreading some kick ass rumours. Either people are debating whether it is an Indian movie or not. The movie's portrayal of India, and what not. But, no one talks about the storyline, the direction, or anything. I'm really starting to dislike this movie now. Thanks to all these articles! When I watched it, I really liked it, and the best part was no one would talk about it, but now since GG, and Oscar nomination every Tom, Dick and Harry has something or the other to say about this movie.
