(First of ALL a huge hellooo to my fellow RR fans, wish them all a happy and prosperous new year and gr8 tv with RR, by the way, aren't we all in for a surprise treat with Bandini, its already turning out to be such a special, unique dose of RR as DM-RR Dhoom machale on TV phir se)

I just watched today's episode.

The scene between Santo and the photographer is one brilliant scene to treasure in many aspects, including the way a young girl's awakening at that her life is not her own, her masti filled childhood is over. Visually, the setting where this scene takes place, seems like ruins of a temple, the earth looks scarred from lack of rain. Santo, a sad figure sitting all huddled up with her head tucked in her arms. A clenched female figure clad in colorful clothing. Refusing to answer or indulge in small talk with the man she perhaps has a small liking for. Maybe. She doesn't know it yet. He wants to make her smile to click her photograph. She remains silent. He misunderstands whose wedding is going to take place, thinking its Khemi's, her elder sister, says some dialogue regarding that a girl does get married when she grows older, he tries to talk to her thinking she is sad because her sister is leaving her. The most saddest part is when he offers her his hand to say goodbye, he is leaving for a few days and she glances at his hand almost moves her hand for a handshake but hesitates. (Santo has grown up). The heartbreaking shot is when she thinks he has left as she doesn't see his figure and she walks towards where he walked away from, thinking he is no more, maybe he was just an illusion. Suddenly, she finds him with his camera aimed at her ready to take a shot of her smiling face filled with all the masti that he encountered on her face the first time he saw her.
I was truly blown away by every aspect of this scene, the setting, the gestures, the underplayed acting, but most of all the authenticity of the scene.
Also, the most striking part is the simplicity of the scene. Its a simple scene of a young girl's by herself, feeling sad at her situation in life.
WOW!! AWESOME!!!
In conclusion, this scene depicted the nuances of the coming of age of a simple, innocent young girl. Her realization that her heart is not hers, her life is not hers, far contrast from the first episode filled with the youthful exhuberant scenes of the mela where Santo was free to dance, to run in the fields, to sing, her life was hers, her heart was hers. This is one of the best scenes I have seen regarding the awakening and crashing of a young girl's unspoken desires, wishes, dreams. Her desires are not hers. The discovery that her life is dictated by others and that it does not belong to her.

Kudos to Ekta and her team in depicting this scene. A splendid job!!

Take Care

hey sammie sis
me too, i loved the scene, she is cute. You know the really good thing with this serial is that all the performers and all performances are like complementing each other. When she smiles she is really cute, she does it so naturally.

This was a very cute scene. The location was beautiful too. It showed the transformation of Santu's character which actually began when she comes home from washing the clothes and sees Nanaji at the potter's wheel and remembers Khemi's words.

Suddenly this free spirited, playful girl realises that the happiness of her family and what happens to them has fallen on her and what decision she takes. I felt really sad when I saw her sitting all hudled up and crying.

Little does she know that her life is going to take a dramatic turn than what she is letting herself in for. Even if she does not know the Mahesh guy one on one, she at least knows where he lives and what he does. The families are on an equal footing. But with her marraige to DM she is going to be transported into his big mansion without knowing ANYTHING about this man except the fact that he is the 'maalik'.

Nice post Bavie. Agree...the majestic ruins yet the simplicity was well thought out. And the actors enacted the scene very well. It all looked so natural. Loved Santo towards the end where she is all smiles. So pure, honest and open.

It will be interesting to see what happens when DM steps into the mandap! Will she shake to total nervousness like she did coming the steps!! 😲

Great post Bavs !

Love reading your posts on these subtle topics .. yes the scene was very symbolic and the message behind the scene was very well portrayed .. on one hand, she was all mentally set for her marriage but her heart was not able to come to terms with that ... especially when Shashank came and talked to her .. her heart is still like a restless butterfly .. which now feels like it's trapped .. the way she laughed at the end was so sweet!

Awesome episode ...

ur description of her as a restless butterfly is very apt-totally on target. I loved this scene, it was executed extremely well for a tv series. A job well done. I had just the right movement and nuance to it. She really is aware and yet not aware of what is going on inside her.
