I'm a rare combination of British and Rajput blood: Preity Zinta

New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) Fed up with responding to queries about her family background, actress Preity Zinta has finally revealed her British connection.

'Some people think I'm south Indian, while some feel I'm a Muslim. There have also been fans who have asked me whether I hail from Himachal Pradesh,' said Preity in a press statement.

'In the early 18th century, when marital alliances between the Rajput and British became quite common, the Zinta clan was born. I'm the rare combination of British and Rajput blood,' she added.

The actress has reportedly signed a film with her 'Dil Chahta Hai' co-star Aamir Khan to be made under the Yash Raj banner.

No actually she is right. I have known some history of upper mountains of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla was the summer capital during British rulers. So there was one Britisher found that the soil was very good for apples. They taught and build huge apple orchids for the local comunity. They mixed with the people in the upper part of Shimla. They married with those people and some even stayed in the India after 1947. If you see these people they look like westners. Infact Priety comes from very affulent family. These people collect huge revenue from state government for their apple crop.

Its a fad. I always find it funny when people who look completely white or Black claim to have Native American aunts and grandmothers or whatever. You know how...African Americans claim to have Native American blood to get handouts (happens especially in Canada)? Sort of like that....But I'm just going to the extreme here coz Preity hardly needs any handouts.😆
I don't know.....or maybe this is a ploy to impress Miss Maureen plastic Wadia. 😉

@ Flaviya: Well, I did not know that about Canada. But I have know a ton of American girls from the Caucasian persuasion to make themselves feel more multicultural would always go I have Cherokee blood and say my great great aunt was Cherokee. But whatever your heritage may be, Irish, Mexican, Ethiopan, or whatever; be proud and own it.
As far as Preity, it may be true. But I can understand why this would be bragged about in India. Wanting to be white and all, I mean I remember reading that Prachi Desai said the best compliment she received was that she looked American.
