GEC Watch: Colors retains No. 2 position in Week 52
Colors, the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from Viacom18, retained its number two position in Week 52. In Week 51, it had shared this position with Zee TV, which moved up a rank post high ratings achieved by the Hindi feature film, Taare Zameen Par.
In Week 52, Zee TV, which is at number three, has suffered a loss of 39 GRPs, to garner a total 191 GRPs. Star Plus continues in the number one position, with GRPs of 295, a marginal increase of 3 GRPs. Colors has garnered GRPs of 255, an increase of 22 GRPs over Week 51, as per the data of TAM Media Research (C&S, 4+, HSM).
Star Plus had a channel share of 25 per cent in Week 52. Colors' share increased from 20 per cent in Week 51 to 22 per cent in Week 52, while Zee TV's share declined from 20 per cent to 16 per cent during the same period.
Colors has now emerged as a strong contender for the top slot. For the last week of 2008, only 40 GRP separates Colors from the current leader Star Plus. Colors' reach is also higher than that of Star Plus in Week 52 at 61.3%, the channel reached 54.8 million viewers while Star Plus reached 53.5 million viewers.
Among the top 10 programmes on GECs, five are from Star Plus, three shows are from Colors stable, while Zee TV has two shows in its fold. Bidaai on Star Plus continues to be best rated show of the Week with a TVR of 8.43.
On Colors, Balika Vadhu got a TVR of 7.2, followed by Jai Shri Krishna, which continues to be the third most watched show with a TVR of 5.45. Recently launched soap Uttaran on Colors, managed a TVR of 3.93.
Aap Ki Kacheri on Star Plus is the fifth most watched show with a TVR of 3.89 followed by two other Star Plus shows – Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil and Tujh Sang Preet Lagayi, which received a TVR of 3.66 and 3.16, respectively.
Zee TV has two shows Maayka and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge in the top list, which got a TVR of 3.08 and 3.07, respectively. Raja Ki Aayegi Barat on Star Plus is at number ten with a TVR of 3.05.
Among other channels, Sony Entertainment Television (SET), shares the number four position with Star One. The share of SET is down by 1 per cent point, having 8 per cent share in Week 52. Star One has retained its 7 per cent share from Week 51.
NDTV Imagine comes in next at number six with a 6 per cent share, the same as last week. SET has attained GRPs of 81, followed by Star One with 80 GRPs and NDTV Imagine with 65 GRPs.
9X, which continues its business with repeat programming, maintains a 4 per cent share, while Sab TV, manages a 4 per cent share too. Both these channels share the number seven position with Sahara One, which also has a share of 4 per cent channel share.
In terms of GRPs, Sab, 9X and Sahara One have 46, 45 and 44 GRPs, respectively. Star Utsav has managed a 3 per cent relative share, while Doordarshan 1 has got a 2 per cent share.
