Dubai Gold awards

Chilly weather and lacklustre fare made the controversial Gold Awards in Dubai a whimper

With a feuding partner, confusion over the title and the non participation of some major telly faces the ride for this year's Gold Awards wasn't a smooth one. And the mediocrity of the event at Global Village in Dubai on Saturday night didn't do much to change the notion.

Organised by Pooja Ghai and Vikas Kalantri's White Leaf Entertainment, the Golds, this year too, was given a miss by Ekta Kapoor and most of her regulars barring Chetan Hansraj, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Kiran Karmarkar and a few. Hosted by Ali Asgar and Suresh Menon who suffered from an SRK-Saif Filmfare hangover the do had the usual mish-mash. We bring you all the goss and gyaan...

Viva veterans

Old warhorses Sarita Joshi, Aroona Irani (seen here with hubby Kuku Kohli) and Alok Nath pipped the Gen Y as they bagged the honours in the Best Actress (Critics), Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor category. An overwhelmed Alok Nath (under the influence of emotions or alcohol, we don't know) made quite some speech. It was however Sarita Joshi's impromptu jig to Desi Girl that got all the ceetees. Baa simply rocked.

Family first

A family that stays together, wins together: was the mantra of the Baa Bahoo Aur Baby team, famous for its 'joint' efforts. Right from eating, shopping, hanging out and picking up awards the BBAB gang never let go of each other. Touch!

Red carpet radiance

While Narayani Shastri, Shveta Salve and Barkha Bisht braved the chill with their rising hemlines, plunging necklines and bare backs, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Divyanka Tripathi preferred bundling up to a shivering Mouni Roy, who wore a floor-length gown, cried "It's not backless," to photogs when asked turn back for a snap. As for the men, pin suits, Pathani suits and even baggy shirts (yeah, you read it right) made it to the floor!

Run Ram run

Apart from taking home the critics' honour for the Best Actor, a bloat-till-I-float Ram Kapoor also earned quite some jabs from emcees Menon and Asgar, who kept taunting him with the chants of 'Ram, aaram mat kar'.

What the fuzz?

Making a fashionably late entry to the venue, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Mukul Dev and Chetan Hansraj sported some serious fuzz. Guess the dudes from the tube aren't fond of razors.

A to Zee

The Golds made sure it appeased parent company Zee. No wonder the channel had the maximum nominations, bagged honours for best movie channel and the best general entertainment channel along with many wins for actors.

Sindoora sulks

Kamya Punjabi's diva act amused us to no end as she constantly fussed over her hair, make up and gown to her husband Bunty Negi, who like Mary's little lamb, followed her diligently and bore the brunt of her bad mood.

Stage managed

Each winner from the Bidaai unit made sure they called up rest of the gang on stage the most bizarre being Parul Chauhan who nearly exasperated in the process. Even as she panted, she kept asking for more names. More than names, we thought, she needed water.

Best Comic Role (Female) Suchita Trivedi (Baa Bahoo Aur Baby)

Monotonous moments

While the potshots on B-Town and Sunil Grover doing a KRK in Deshdrohi worked fine, the Razzies kinda Balti awards totally sucked. Nigaar Z Khan and Narayani Shastri's 'skin'tillating act upped the mercury only to be brought down by Asgar and Menon's lame jokes. The acceptance speeches too wouldn't go past the 'thank you Pooja and Vikas' rhetoric. We weren't expecting an Oscar, how about some newness?
