| Anil Kapoor turns bigger than Aishwarya Rai By Sampurn, 25 December, 2008 |
Ash's biggest success in North America, the 2004 romantic comedy Bride & Prejudice grossed $6.6 million there about half of what Slumdog has fetched in its early run. It has jumped from the 11th to the eighth position, grossing $3.1 million over the weekend. The film was showing in 589 theatres. Trade analysts have said that the film could have neared $4 million but for a major winter storm paralyzing many large cities in the Midwest and Northeast for hours on Friday. An ecstatic Kapoor has reportedly said, "True, 'Slumdog Millionaire' is a British film and it is in English but I am very much part of the movie industry in India. I was not actively looking to act in a foreign film at all." Even the very talented British director Danny Boyle has only words of praise for him, "Anil Kapoor gave all of himself to the movie. He has been around for more than three decades but his enthusiasm for this project was unbelievable." In Italy where it is number nine on the box office chart, the film has grossed nearly $1. 2 million in 10 days and in Australia where it is at number seven on the charts and in its first week, it grossed nearly $300,000 in its first five days. Actors like the late Persis Khambatta of 'Star Trek' fame has featured in bigger movies than Slumdog but she had already settled down in the West when her films released. Looks like Kapoor has made big gains by featuring in a role which was turned down by Big B and SRK! https://filmicafe.com/news_detail.php?news_id=8715 |
