Hi,
this is a bit late, but i went with my parents to the november fest concert by "the hindu" .. songs from the 50's to 70's were sung by four singers:
Naresh Iyer (robaroo from rang de basanti)
Chinmayee (tere bina and mayya mayya)
Anuradha shriram(the chunari chunari song and sang in taal, dil se, lagaan)
and
Srinivas(i dont know any of his achievements, and later on i found out why 😛)
well basically it was organised by sriram, who is a big kishore kumar fan.. he was a typical kishore clone who sounds like kyumar sanu..
his voice wasnt anything great, his singing was ok but his pronunciation was so tamilian it made me laugh.
he started off with a kl saigal number..
he then started to insult mohammed rafi by saying things like "we are singing songs by great singers like kishore da, lata ji, asha ji, manna dey, mukhesh, geeta dutt,suman kalyanpuri and MANY OTHERS." 🤢
and later on he said "i'm sure there are a few mohammed rafi fans here".. there werent a few. there was more than 80% of the audience who cheered.
he said that he was going to sing the greatest kishore kumar song ver made, "kora kaagaz tha yeh man mera"....
he said the aaay haay aah haaah horribly.. he messed up the lyrics horribly and chinmayee started humming when she didnt know the words properly. 😆
usually i dont take part in rafi-kishore/manna/mukhesh wars but i'll make an exception.. no offence to kishore fans, i am attacking this srinivas fellow for insulting rafi saab and not kishore kumar himself, who would have probably slapped srinivas himself.
anyway he is fit only for local marriage songs..
sang ter mere sapne and killed it..
chinmayee was good- an average lata clone , one might say..
sand mera saaya, kajra mohobbat wala which was superb ,some boring songs from pakeezah..
she kept forgetting the lyrics..
anuradha sriram was excellent.
she sang aaye mehrebaan, raina beeti jaaye - awesome,etc but her range wasn't that good at all.
but she kept taking digs at lata.. i think it was becoz her mother was a victim of the lata monopoly..
naresh sang rafi songs mainly like chahunga mein tujhe , abhi na jaao chodkar..
pardah hai pardah was FABULOUS..
but the 4 finally sang 2 songs 1 each by rafi/asha and kishore lata:
1) aaja aaja which was DISASTROUS
2) Jai jai shiva shankar was even worse..
u no the part where kishore da sings a really insane part of that song, well the singers totally skipped that part....
i'll rate the show like so:
song choice - 8 (a lot of my fav's yet a few boring tuneless ones as well)
singers - 6 (instead of taking south indians they could have taken kk,shreya,shaan etc, even kunal ganjawala and the zee sa re ga ma pa 2009 ppl would have been better)
atmosphere - 10
but my overall rating would be 7 , coz atmosphere duznt matter that much.
