I think it's great actors speak in english because there are people who can't understand hindi and they want to watch the hindi movies/interviews. Hindi actors are worldwide superstars and bollywood is known by the whole world these days. I think it's a good bussiness by crossing worldwide, more money.

Yeh i agree i think thats the main reason for the growth in the use of the language...personally i do not mind either but i actually like listening to hindi 😛

Also bollywood movies r movies made by the "indian film industry" so it doesn't mean they have to be in hindi as many films r spoken in just punjabi or stuff but ppl still watch them! there's nothing wrong with it. Though like Jhanvi, i agree its when they start putting accents on and trying to make it sound as if all natural and all-but they make a fool of themselves and why be embarrassed nothing wrong with speaking english with an indian accent or whtever.i live in uk so i speak english naturally in a slight british accent so my hindi/punjabi comes out with a bit of an english accent underneath and i never try to hide it so why do bollywood celebs?! it doesn't make them look highly educated being ableto speak english in a completly phoney american accent and there are a good few actors who do this!

Fab Topic! =]

Thank you firstly....
I agree on the accent bit....it is very well said though it would be good if they used other dialets but personally i am punjabi but i just find the language very sleepy on screen maybe its just actors thats why i avoid the movies 😆. However be good i noticed in aap ki khatir they used gujrati words it would be interesting to see bengali, gujarti etc used more.

Interview in English seems to me more a marketing acts of them, so that people remain curious abt them, and go to see their movie
I prefer to use in movie Hindi.
I don't like one of the latest trends in which movie plotted on the Indian society but movie is entirely in English.

I feel if ur among Indians u sud speak in the ur own accent. And if ur among others u cud use their accent just to make them feel comfortable but only in the case if few ppl of that accent approves that u have the good catch on their accent. And if u have nobody who can approve u, then its good to speak at ur accent. Not only it will feels good, also its about self-respect. i specially hate one VJ girl Anusha of MTV who tried to speak English in other accent, first thing is she is referring to Indian audience so sud not use it. Second she is not having even half of catch on that accent. It really ridiculous

This is the first post that completely goes with what i think lol so great!
I think it is marketing maybe because i like i the uk but i actually get put off by films with hindi/english titles. The settings and storys are going more western personally i am hating that because theres plenty of english films anyways..we watch asian films because they are indian.
I totally agree if you are speaking to asians then speak your own language...unless someone does not understand lol. Example being at home i always use punjabi do not know why but its a habit. There are too many people actors , vjs etc who put on a accent..if your shows being telecast in india only why speak in english.

Great topic.

I don't think its being overused. Hindi is india's first language HOWEVER, there is a variety of languages that are still not presented which belong to India. Even if the case is like for example in Punjab, i hardly see any movies where the scenario is completly punjabi where you would speak COMPLETE punjabi but instead we hear hindi 😕 like hello. thats not realistic. the only example that I can give that did not do that was prietys role in Heroes. Totally agree there...its punjabi accent but hindi words JWM being a example of this apart from odd lines. Prietys punjabi was damn cute lol in that film and definetly that was one of the few films i can think of as well.
So, I don't think the case here really is just hindi vs. english, its more how can we make this situation or scene more realistic. there is nothing bad about speaking english ifthat scene/character/setting requires it. english is a international. langauage so no one is acting like they want to be anything by speaking english. As well these movies arent only seen by indian people so some added english is helping the movie. Actually thats a very good point and interesting way of looking at it..definetly like in movies in certain situations should be use and some not.
and that part about "yo" & "hey dude", arent most teens even in India and everywehre in the world using that. Its influence by media oviously. So its not just bollywood movies. Hindi is impt to be heard in these movies and it is in most cases if not every hindi movie unless required otherwise. No idea about that lol i hate slang words so i never use to use them. Thats just it thats not english really its just dialect more.Movies and media definetly do influence.
