Has anyone read the book "Palace of Illusions" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni?? Its a very nice and interesting book about Mahabharat from Draupadi's point of view.

Yeah...n I'm finding the Draupadi-Karna attraction in the book hard to believe!! Even the Arjun- Draupadi jealousy part is unbelievable...coz as far as I've found out, Draupadi was Arjun's favourite wife. Otherwise its a very good book!!

Sorry, but I didn't like it at all.😕 Don't get me wrong; I love Chitra Bannerje Divakaruni's novels, my favorites being Sister of My Heart and Vine of Desire (has anyone read those?), but I did not enjoy Palace of Illusions at all, because I am a biggie about facts when it comes to puranas, and I felt this was too...soap opera like, with the whole "wife loving someone else" thing and the very unoriginal "mother-in-law v. wife" thing.

Of course, this was completely and totally a fictional work, and I guess if one reads it with an open mind and not keeping the Mahabharata epic in mind, it's not that bad, but even then, it was...too depressing, and the Mahabharata was much too tragical without more depression added to it, know what I mean?
But one thing I like about this book is Ms. Divakaruni's writing style. It's really...compelling, and when one reads any of her books, they don't feel like doing anything else. Her writing style is really good, but I myself did not enjoy this particular book.
My fav of hers is Sister of My Heart: soooo sad😭. I think it's her best work. Has anyone read it?

I've read Sister of My Heart....and I agree with you Lalithadi, its an awesome book!!
I too read Palace of Illusions keeping the original Mahabharat in mind for the first time and was highly disappointed. But the second time, I read it as if it was a completely brand new story and to my surprise, I liked it!!
