Paresh clones himself for film
Where is Paresh Rawal, the man with the comic touch?
He's been out of the screens for quite a while.
Two years ago with Priyadarshan, he was busy hamming left, right and centre. No harm that sometimes it just grated on our nerves.
This is why his quiet comic turn in 'JTYJN' was such a pleasant surprise, increasingly made wonderful by keeping his character short. Because too much of Paresh, as I have said above, can get out of hand.
So I was definitely upset to learn that Paresh has three avatars in the new Abhay Deol starrer, 'Oye Lucky Lucky Oye'. The trouble with actors like Paresh is that too much of a good thing can be injurious to health.
Sanjeev Kumar, for the love of the navaras played nine characters in 'Naya Din Nayi Raat', which I will agree was a showcase of his myriad talent, but the end product was haphazard.
9 Sanjeev Kumar's in one film is still okay, imagine the mayhem if you put 9 Paresh Rawal in a film! As a concept, it sounds novel, but in production it can be quite a mess-up.
I consoled myself that it's just 3 of Paresh this time. Time to test the waters only.
He plays Abhay Deol's delhi-belly father in the film, for which designers Rushi and Manishi (who are these people) gave him just about the same look we saw Anupam Kher sporting in 'Khosla Ka Ghosla'.
His second character Gogi Bhai is what is troubling me. Not that Paresh has any inputs about his fashion sense. The look that has been created for his second get-up has a very kitsch, flamboyant and flashy feel to it. Again, this is something he's been through with in 'Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota'.
Expensive suits with padding in loud colors are what he gets for his third character in the film. The suiting-shirting is fine because what ultimately matters is the actor in the end.
I have rarely ever had to pay attention to what Paresh is wearing when he comes on screen though it helps to be seen in character garb. Throughout 'Hera Pheri' Paresh moved about in a dhoti and vest, true to the role and humor. The sequel was a ham-fest.
Going by the trailers, 'OLLO' looks like it will be a sleeper hit. But in a month where the Khans are set to clash, I hope, if not for Abhay, Paresh's three get-ups should keep the audience glued.
