The linear flow of emotions doesn't help anyone till Akshay does a u-turn and asks Madhuri to go back to Shah Rukh. That way he has the skimpily clad Karisma all to himself. And you thought HE was the one sacrificing!
The film: Dil Se
The angles: Manisha Koirala, Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: Just why do men want to have the bird in the hand AND the one in the bush? The logic beats us but that's what forms the story of Dil Se. Shah Rukh is getting married to Preity but is in love with femme fatale Manisha Koirala. The Nepali beauty is all set to blow up some parade till our man runs away from his shaadi ka mandap only to be blown away, literally. Talk of living together for eternity.
The film: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
The angles: Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: If one triangle isn't enough, Karan Johar's directorial debut offers you two. The first one – Rani-SRK-Kajol – ends with Rani dying in childbirth leaving Shah Rukh all for Kajol. But the tomboy-turned-demure damsel Kajol is about to marry Salman who is desperately in love with her. The eternal tear-eyed Shah Rukh finally manages to weaken Salman's resolve and walks away with Kajol, yet again.
The angles: Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: Preity and Saif are friends who study together in an evening course. Enter Shah Rukh Khan
who comes as a breath of fresh air in Preity's life and sweeps her off her feet. The hitch? Saif loves Preity too. But Shah Rukh is already battling a life-threatening disease and so decides to hook up Saif with Preity. After about 11.75 litres of salt water has flown down the drain, Preity and Saif marry and live happily ever after. The film: Deewana
The angles: Divya Bharti, Rishi Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: Rishi Kapoor is bumped off in the first half of the movie leaving the pretty Divya Bharati a widow. Enter Shah Rukh who makes Divya weak in her knees. Re-enter Rishi Kapoor, who it seems isn't dead after all because Shah Rukh had managed to save him! Divya is in a fix. Typical of men isn't it? There's none when you want one and then two turn up!
The film: Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman
The angles: Juhi Chawla, Amrita Singh, Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: Shah Rukh loves money, Juhi loves Shah Rukh and so does Amrita. But Amrita has something Juhi doesn't – no not her 32D – she has money. Shah Rukh falls for the latter (money) and goes all out to make a lot of it. Nana Patekar howls, yells, makes speeches and drags the gold-digger by his ear back into the chawl from where he started. Juhi tells us the film released on her 25th birthday. Yeah right!
The angles: Juhi Chawla, Sunny Deol, Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: Sunny Deol is to marry Juhi Chawla. But Shah Rukh - that stammering anti-hero - wants a climax of his own. He waltzes into the couple's lives and their bedroom making Sunny suspicious. Sunny nabs him, trashes him and shoots not one or two but three bullets in Shah Rukh's guts. Shah Rukh dies, Yash Chopra gets a National Award and Khan becomes a superstar.
The film: Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa
The angles: Suchitra Krishnamurthy, Deepak Tijori and Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: Suchitra Krishnamurthy is the woman of two men's dreams – the rich, motor car-owning Deepak Tijori and the bugle-playing ne'er do well Shah Rukh Khan. Suchitra loves Deepak (duh!) but Shah Rukh refuses to give up till the very end when he realises playing the bugle is something he's best at.
The film: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
The angles: Mandira Bedi, Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: Just when he thought he had managed a feat by finding his ladylove in Punjab, he discovers he isn't the only one doing the chasing. Kajol's groom-to-be Parmeet Sethi's sister Mandira Bedi insists on throwing coy glances at him every three minutes. Not sure what to do, he tries to stay away from her till papa Anupam Kher comes and agrees for the match by mistake. In the end Shah Rukh gets his girl and Mandira is left with her gun-totting brother. Tch tch...
The angles: Ramya Krishnan, Pooja Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan
The problem: Rich brat Ramya is pampered by her brother Naseeruddin Shah. So when baby Ramya wants Shah Rukh as her toy boy, Naseer does everything in his power to get him for her. The country bumpkin with his heart (and everything else) in the right place wants to cure his father of a deadly disease. He chooses Pooja Bhatt, a doctor over the rich girl leaving Ramya raving, ranting and throwing out everything in her way. Whew!
