| When she decided to get into the acting profession, Aamna Sharif says she always aspired to work in films. But serials happened to her by chance and she went on to become a popular television star with her debut show Kahiin To Hoga. Her on-screen chemistry with co-actor Rajeev Khandelwal as well as their off-screen close friendship became a topic of discussion and speculation. While Rajeev quit the show after one year, Aamna played her part as Kashish till the show went off air a year and half ago. She was expected to be back on the tube after a short break but surprisingly Aamna stayed away from television completely. Instead she opted for films and is now through with the shooting of her debut film Aloo Chaat. "I can't deny that whatever I am today it's because of television," admits the pretty actress. "But I always wanted to do films and hence stayed away from serials. Kashish was a popular character, which I played for three years and it was difficult for me to come out of the image. This is why I kept a low profile and stayed away from media glare." When she was offered the lead role in Aloo Chaat opposite Aftab Shivdasani, Aamna says she was bit confused about the film's title. "But when I read the script I could relate to my role," says Aamna, who plays a Muslim girl in the film, which is a social satire. Elaborating further, she says the film revolves around two north Indian families. "As the title suggests, the film is a sweet, fun-loving situational comedy. With this film I want people to forget Kashish and remember Aamna which is also my character's name in the film," she adds. Though TV is still close to her heart she doesn't want to it. "I want to concentrate only on films. I have done only one TV show but my role had all kinds of shades and variations. I don't think there is anything left that I would like to do on TV," she adds. |
